Stormy Weather

We got ourselves our first snow day! Yahoo! Wow, it sure is nasty out there. We're lucky in that we have any empty lot 2 doors down, I guess it's a drainage lot or something like that. Anyway, these houses are walk-outs, so they're built on hills. Do you see where I'm going with this yet? No? Oh, well that lot makes the perfect sledding hill! So we don't have to pile the kids in the car, etc., they just walk two houses down. (That's where T currently is.) Brrrrrr....

Which makes yall some a the most luckiest people in the world, imo.

Anonymous said...

You've got a case of sledding envy. I've read about it on web md. It's chronic and the only cure is gettin your butt up here.

RecknHavic said...

Thanks doc.

It's 76 degrees there right now?? I looked it up and for some reason I wasn't expecting that. I was thinkin 60 or so. Wow, ya'll must be back in shorts! Snow's still comin, but we're at the tail end now. It's blowing so much I can't tell how much there is. I'll let the news tell me- oh crap I forgot..cable is out. Well I'll let ya know when I hear.

Heard the auto companies got some word on money today. Didn't get the details. Let's hope it works, eh?

RecknHavic said...

Yes, I think they're gonna "lend" them some money. Unfortunately it's just a temp fix. Until the big 3 restructure, they're gonna be in trouble.

Official total is 9 inches. Ever had Thai food? Contemplatin for dinner. Have a feeling we'll wimp out and do something safer.

Nestor said...

Thai food is awesome, the problem is I've only tasted it in Thailand. Every place I've been to in America pales in comparison. There is a place in Austin that's very good, but still not the same. Not even as good as the little places on the side of the street. But Thai food is awesome. What you get in America goes from a mix of Chinese and Indian to a pretty close representation of Thai food. If you get the close representation, you should like it. Just one word of advice if you're not into spicy food, make sure you inform them of how spicy you like your food, because Thai food is generally between moderately hot to burn all of your tastebuds to cinders hot.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the info, but we went Chinese. The Thai place didn't answer the phone. Lookin forward to burnin my tastebuds to cinders.

I saw that Monty Python bit tonight about the German composer with the really long name. Lol! Cleese mumbling it while the old guy's dying was classic.

Crashin..gn! 5 more days!

RecknHavic said...

Fraid Thai stick is the closest I've ever come to Thai food; tho I suppose I coulda eatin it.

Vietnamese is real good, but depends where you get it. Houston had several good Viet places. Large Asian population there.

Nestor said...

I imagine H-Town has good Thai places. I'd have to ask some of my co-workers where to get good Vietnamese in Austin. There are like 4 Vietnamese Pharmacists where I work. One of them, who came to the states in the late 90's moved to New Orleans from Vietnam, and she said Vietnam was nicer than New Orleans. Pretty sad considering the billions the fed. govt. gave to NO to fix infrastructure, levees, etc.

One Christmas party down, 3 to go! There's some spirit for ya, eh? Is it over yet? Nah, it was fun. 29 of us this year, and ravioli...which is really all that's important. I'll post some pics when our computer's fixed.

Anonymous said...

I know you're not around cuz you watched W.R. and you liked it so well you're probably watching it again.

RecknHavic said...

Actually, we WERE gonna watch it but went for our annual Christmas lights drive. That and Krispy Kreme's doughnuts. Cannot beat KK.

That's alotta folks. Musta been fun tho.

Anonymous said...

I just got finished watching the last 40 or so minutes of Love Actually. Ever seen it? And it's starting over, so I get to see the beginning bits I missed.

How were the lights? Couldn't have had much on you.

RecknHavic said...

There were some pretty impressive ones out there. Went by Mr. Clarks Christmas House as well. Sure is a nice old fella.

Love Actually...bettin it's a chick flick.

RecknHavic said...

Btw, that Joe Cocker thing was hilarious!

Anonymous said...

It was fun. It's my dad's 2 brothers, my cousins, and their kids. I noticed the difference in political views tnite. We do a "white elephant" exchange. I'm sure you've done that. My cousins husband got a heart shaped frame w/ Obama's picture in it...said he'd use it to start his bonfire. Then my gma got Hannity's book and she went on about what an idiot he is. Ha! Luckily everyone's wise enough not to really talk too much about it.

The kids range from 7th grade to 3 yrs. old. They were awesome. They practiced their songs in the back room for forever, and then did their routines w/ a mike that was set up for kareoke, but they just sang w/ out the kareoke part. Then before dinner, the kids that wanted to, got up in front of everyone and said a prayer before dinner. (All but ours are Catholic). T did one..he likes it I think.

I guess I don't need to post now. Guess I can't wait. :)

Anonymous said...

Reg. movie..I guess so, but not overly. Think you'd like it, and it's based around Christmas. Some of it's a bit racey, but I think you could handle it. It's a feel good for sure. Get it!

Anonymous said...

Early on tnite at the party, my dad mis-stepped off a 4 inch step and nearly did a header into the kitchen bar counter. Thank gosh he's still got instincts..that coulda been the beginning of the end of the day. Instead he ended up planting himself at that counter, and heckled people who came for seconds. Really he announced them...it was pretty funny. (He spared me, cuz he loves me best.)

RecknHavic said...

Those Catholics..

Good for T!

I bet there were some interestn convos.

Karaoke...you're there...surely you sang.

RecknHavic said...

Thank God your dad has cat like reflexes.

ohhh...racy Christmas movies...my favorite.

Yall go to church.

Nestor said...

OK so how was Mr. Clark's? If he's who I think he is, he used to come into the Pharmacy on Ft. Sam and we'd go check out his car which is totally decked out Christmas style. He was one of the nicest patients that would come into the pharmacy.

RecknHavic said...

It's the same guy. Did yall ever go to his house when you lived here? it's somethin else. Did he talk about the hats he makes? really nice old fella. When you make it to where he is inside he always gives the kids candy. You can google his name and find pics of his house I believe.

RecknHavic said...

At par-tay numero duce I see.

Anonymous said...

You are correct, sir. Awesome Chinese dinner, and the boys got the Wii. I just got beat in tennis by little Wii people. Oh I'll avenge my loss. Dang Wii people... walkin around with their little Wii eyes, and their little Wii bodies. Thinkin they're a Wii bit better than me.

Today was one of those days when 18 degrees woulda been "nice". It was 4, with winds 25-35 makin it freakin -16! Ouch. How'd your day go, dago?

RecknHavic said...

So, did yall make your own Mii's? Yall'r gonna have fun w/ it that's for sure. Be prepared for Wii elbow.

Ahhh, chinese; an American Christmas tradition.

Good day here. it's...er...cold...to us.
-16 is just wrong. Stupid question here, but do you hafta worry about your lungs freezn or somethin when you're outside and it's that cold.

Anonymous said...

Well D went out for firewood and came in cursin. I thought something happened, but it was just the cold.

Chinese food IS a tradition for us on Christmas Eve, but my bro won't be here, so we did it today.

The boys made some Miis. We set it up downstairs, cuz the neighborhood kids tend to come here and they're not gettin my living room. I could get Wii elbow serving in tennis...looking forward to the bowling!

Anonymous said...

Said to the kids tnite, "did y'all brush your teeth?" Ok, that's not right. Must get back to my northern city roots.

Anonymous said...

Reg. cold..they do have "open skin advisories", that you have to heed. As far as lungs, you just tend to cough more when you breath, so breathin thru a scarf is helpful. C'mon up! Check it out! Aw, no biggie, it'll warm up to the 20s tomorrow.

Nestor said...

Well it's supposed to be cold here tonight, but not that cold. Al Gore must be in Michigan today.

Nestor said...

The Wii seems like fun, I don't know though. I'm a PlayStation guy. We were hoping to get the PS3, it's just not gonna happen right now. Maybe next month, and maybe we can get it on sale.

Anonymous said...

I dunno how the PS3 works, I was told that Nintendo sets the price for the Wii, so there's no point in shoppin around. We split the gift with my folks, so that was nice.

Nestor said...

The PS3 is very similar. You will get it (the cheaper model) for $399 virtually everywhere. It's more money, but it comes with Blu-Ray and it's a much better system for a 'gamer'. (incidentally, the cheapest Blu-Ray player, at least a few months ago was $399) The X-Box 360 is also similar quality and a little cheaper, but doesn't come with Blu-Ray. Plus I am real comfortable with the PS controller. It would take me a little while to adjust to the XBox controller. If you're talking about stellar graphics, gameplay, etc. it really comes down to personal preference between the 360 and the PS3. If you don't really care and you just want fun games for the whole family, then the Wii is the better (and cheaper) bet.

Nestor said...

I'm not sure whether to root for you Lions to make history or not next sunday. That's probably not a record they want any part of, but at least you'll get another great WR in the draft, Michael Crabtree.

Anonymous said...

No, I'm rootin for it. Screw em..they suck, so let's just go for it. I think their suckednish should be all out there, with no doubts. Idiot management isn't gonna change much for next year either.

RecknHavic said...

Wow, yall we're up late. I got caught up watchin DVR'd "Jeremiah Johnson"; a definite guy flick.

N,
My son bought himself a PS3 (yes, that's where his pay-cks go) and it's freakin awesome. Alotta the graphics are like watchin a movie. And the blue-ray option is a major plus.

RecknHavic said...

Uh..I should clarify. The reason I didn't watch WR is because almost e1 was asleep. Yeah...that's it.

RecknHavic said...

Btw, Wii bowln is very addictive. I'm just sayn...

Anonymous said...

I just bowled my first game. Outta the gate with 2 strikes, had 5 spares for a total of 160. I'm such a dork, tho. I'm acting like I'm really bowling, with the lunge forward. Somehow I don't think I'd score less if I didn't do that.

Tennis is a little frustrating..I need to learn how to use my partner at the net better for volleys. She's a little slow on the uptake. She actually whiffs (misses the ball completely), and it's really embarassing.

Anonymous said...

Ever do the ol' 'add "in bed" to your fortunes from your fortune cookies'? It's a little juvenile, but it makes the fortunes better.

Here's a few from yesterday:
Now is the time for peace in your life. Go along with other's ideas....in bed.

You find beauty in ordinary things. Do not lose this ability....in bed.

Your life will be prosperous if you use your creativity...in bed.

Har har har har har..

Anonymous said...

Jeremiah Johnson...is that the one w/ Robert Redford and that character "Paints His Shirt Red", or somethin like that? (Ok, I googled it.) Yeah, I think I coulda resisted the record button for that one.

RecknHavic said...

yeah, S watched it for about two minutes then started readin a book..in bed.
Yes, you are juvenile :)

I do the same thing when I'm Wii bowln. I'm ranked a "pro" btw..so I got that goin for me.

Anonymous said...

Ok, you're "ranked a pro" in Wii bowling and you're calling ME juvinile.

I really need Christmas to come and go, cuz this tree is startin to lean, and it if we have to go through getting it in the stand straight again, it might be more than this marriage can handle.

RecknHavic said...

That's really funny. I'm sure yall'll work it out.

You're just jealous you're ni=ot a pro, nah..nah...naaahhh.

Ok, I might be bein a BIT juvy.

WR tonite!

Anonymous said...

Yeah yeah. Whatever.

Hey, so you know, there's an all day Duke marathon on AMC Christmas day! Have you seen the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon on Cartoon Network? I just watched an episode and I'll admit I was a little bit riveted!

RecknHavic said...

Really? I may ck it out if it's "riveting".

Was aware of the Duke thing, but thanks.

Anonymous said...

I just made my Mii person. How fun. I was checkin out all the people the boys made and there's a John Wayne. Ha! I've no idea...don't ask.

Anonymous said...

Oh and have you put your camera card in it yet? Good fun...among other things, you can make a puzzle out of a picture and put it together. I quite enjoyed that!

(I said "a little" riveted.)

RecknHavic said...

Have no idea what a camera card is, please tell.

The Duke!! You gotcha some sharp kiddos there pilgrim.

We made a Hurley (from Lost). Looks alot like em.

Sooo..have you gotten close to a 200 in bowlin yet :)

RecknHavic said...

So, S out w/ my mother tonite and I'm doin the cookin. Made my 2 pies for Christmas and then attempted chili makin. I gotta bad track record w/ chili. I know..I kniw...livin on the equator it should be 2nd nature for me. My last try went well cept for when I added Italian sausage. Not good in chili btw.

Anonymous said...

Hurley..that's funny. T made a Whoopi Goldberg.

In your digital camera..the SD card that you take out to download your pics. There's a spot in the Wii console, where you put it in there and you can view your photos. And mess with em. You can take your dog's head and put in on your body for example. Oh the possibilities!

Mmmm...chili. Mine's pretty standard..no help here.

I've only bowled the one game. D's down there right now..keep hearin him yelling. Ha..just heard a "YES!"

RecknHavic said...

It can be addictin.

Wick Fowler mix here.

Cool, we'll try it.

Anonymous said...

Are you guys havin dinner at your place? Oh man, that reminds me..I just found out I havta make a green bean casserole again per my mom in law's request. We're doin bake your own pizza xmas eve. yum.

I wonder if Stan's havin a nice Hanukkah..

RecknHavic said...

We're headin to Grandma's Christmas day and havin dinner there.

I'm sure Stan's havin a ganja-like Hanukkah.

Nestor said...

Clone Wars on CN was pretty good. We have both videos. I'd like to get the one that was in the theatres this summer, it was pretty good. I won't say that they're great but they're fun and entertaining, and I pretty much love all things Star Wars...except Jar Jar Binks.

Anonymous said...

Hm. You COULD eat more that way. I once ate an entire pizza by myself. And I don't recall feelin full.

Anonymous said...

B got that movie for Christmas. I haven't seen it yet..he loves it. I thought the CN show was really good, visually. Ha, no grown-up likes Jar Jar. Poor guy.

RecknHavic said...

No WR tonite..manana...manana...

Nestor said...

If you want to get more out of the Star Wars universe, go to YouTube and check out the Chad Vader episodes. They're hilarious. Some (not all) of the training videos are good, but all of the shows are funny.

Anonymous said...

Ha..I've seen those.

I'm feelin trapped. I need to get outta this house and it's snowing and it feels like 4. Traffic is crawlin and I'll have to scrape the car. Think I'll cowboy up, as it were and go for it. My friend just called and wants me to rent this movie he just saw and then tell him if he liked it. Ha. So I have a purpose. Off to Blockbuster..wish me luck...

Nestor said...

Good luck. I had to ride out early this morning and it was raining. I was concerned as to whether the temp would drop a couple of degrees because it was about 34, but it held out, kept raining and we had pretty much clear sailing all the way. It does help that school is out for about 100,000 college students in the city and the other school kids though, traffic was much lighter than usual. Hopefully work will be as well. I'll be in the OR/ICU satellite tonight so it can be a crapshoot, but usually they don't schedule too many surgeries around the holidays.

Anonymous said...

I told Ben about Reck bein a pro in bowling and he said "tell him I'm ALMOST a pro in boxing. Tell him I have like 638 and I need 1000."

RecknHavic said...

Reck doesn't do boxin, so B's the champ there. Hurts my elbows. He'd whip me for sure.

RecknHavic said...

Well, no trabajo aqui today, weather. Kinda glad but means gonna hafta work some manana :(

How's the casserole comin?

Chili last nite was actually pretty good. Addin the rotel was a plus. So, do yall put your chili over rice? We started to recently (tho that goes against the Texas Constitution); really makes it stretch.

Anonymous said...

Made it! Slid around quite a bit, but I bring that on a little myself cuz it's fun. Went and had lunch at a little diner. (D's workin every work week day except Christmas till we go up north on Wed.)

Um...don't have the ingredients for that yet. Gotta look up what I need and go get it. I'd rather not do that w/ 2 kids in tow, so tnite probably.

Nope, never done it over rice. Sounds tasty enough.

Whatta have to do to become a pro? Is it consistency or just a one time good score?

Anonymous said...

Oh and fyi..ACO had a big banner that said "Christ Our Savior Was Born" or somethin of that nature, and I got a Merry Christmas from em. Guess we know where they stand. Got a Happy Holidays from Blockbuster...and in both cases I instinctually said "thanks, you too." So before you go beatin people up for sayin "you too", remember it's probably just habit.
:)

RecknHavic said...

Actually, I've gotten WAY more "merry Christmas'" this yr. Had a few offered to me first as well.

Did get one "same to ya" in a very rude voice from a lady at Barnes and Noble, but that's to be expected there I guess.

Consistency.

Anonymous said...

So my second bowling game was 167. And my Wii fitness age was 39. Mind you it tested me in baseball, which I hadn't tried yet. This is supposed to be enjoyable and not stressful, right? Just checking.

Anonymous said...

Ok, they boys came up here, so I'm sneakin down to bowl in peace. I discovered a spin during the fitness test.

RecknHavic said...

Yes, to score big in bowlin you must incorporate a spin. My record for strikes in a row is 6 (dbl turkey!) btw. Can't recall my high gm but I think it was around 260.

Baseballs fun. Yall should get mario Party 8, it's a fun one to play w/ kids. Also, lil S rented "Animal Crossing: City Folk"; you're kids will love it.

Anonymous said...

Alright, I bowled a quick 7 games. My high score is 223, but I didn't go from lowest to highest, so I don't have it all figured out.

The only thing that bothers me is that the bowling announcer keeps tellin my Wii Mii that she's got a nice pair. I mean, I know it's a bowling alley.. but dude, have some class.
Oh SPARE! Nice SPARE! nevermind.

RecknHavic said...

Nice score...keep practicin.

Been jammin to Nirvana. Man, that band rocked!

RecknHavic said...

Your arm is gonna be soooo sore manana.

Anonymous said...

Oh c'mon. That deserved at least a smirk or something. sheesh..at least I make myself laugh.

Yeah, I never got into them much. I think they came out w/ "Smells Like Teen Spirit" around '91, and by then I wasn't feelin the whole mosh pit or grunge thing.
But rock on, brotha!

Anonymous said...

Boxing was pretty taxing on the arm! I was doing the training part where you just wail on the bag for 60 seconds. I felt that. Ben didn't understand why his arm was hurting today. I was rubbin it for him..kinda funny, it's so small. I can pretty much fit his shoulder in my mouth. Yes, I've tried it. Granted I may have a big mouth,(beat you to it), but still.

RecknHavic said...

Soory, the "spare" thing went over my head. Thought maybe you were still bowlin.

I gave up on the boxin.

Anonymous said...

I have to walk away from the bowling. I'm gettin worse, not better. What I need to do is use a Mii that's not me and practice spins and stuff. I feel like when I try to spin it, I lose power. Then again, I may just be getting tired. I wonder if you throw harder than I do..get better pin action that way. I did pick up my first split, tho. Plus with John Wayne bowling next to me, I get nervous. You would too.

RecknHavic said...

I rely more on spin than power. Plus, i go through phases where I can't bowl worth a cr*p. And don't worry...split happens.

The Duke can be intimidatin.

headn to my moms for Christmas Eve eve dinner. Don't ask.

Anonymous said...

Are you bringin WR??

Oh my gosh..I went down to try again (of course) and on my first throw, I throw back my arm and the remote goes flying behind me.. and the Mii crowd gasps in horror!! Lol!! Yes, I had the remote strap around my wrist, but I didn't have it tightened. No need when you're sure you'd never let go. Only kids would do that.

RecknHavic said...

We meant to take it, but forgot, darn it.

I know this, before 09, I WILL WATCH THIS MOVIE.

Probably.

Anonymous said...

So I found out that if you have a Wii, and we have a Wii, and we both have wireless internet, we can play each other. Oh you know what's comin in '09!

How was dinner?

RecknHavic said...

Prime rib, need I say more.

Very cool. better start practicin.

How's the arm?

Anonymous said...

Gosh you're the 3rd person I know having prime rib for Christmas. Both my brothers are doin it, too. Weird.

I can feel it a little bit. Not bad. I've got muscles of steel, ya know.

Ben just read me an excellent fortune from a cookie...I'll spare you. :)

I told B to let T win sometimes if he wants him to keep playing him.

Anonymous said...

Yes, you'd better start practicin.

RecknHavic said...

I meant "me".

we had prime rib last nite. Manana it's turkey and dressin.

So, we let the kiddos open the gifts they had accidentally seen or (in the case a my son) had already figured out they were getn (lil S cd plyer, oldest house shoes and the boy a vid gm) last nite.

The gm is too cool. World At War for PS3. Probably that best graphics I've ever seen in a gm. Ohhh..I'll be playn it.

Anonymous said...

Wonder if that's similar to Call of Duty. D's interested in that..WW2 game I think. I'd haveta hide it from the boys, tho.
T just said, "there's a lot of WW2 games that are inappropriate." ha!

RecknHavic said...

It's from the Call Of Duty series, which are the best. Bad language tho so T's right.

RecknHavic said...

Ok, just proceeded to lose my pro status. 104 point drop, couldn't break the 200 pt barrier w/ a freakin 145 mixed in.
Uuurrrggg!!

Anonymous said...

Got a 183 then a 152. Poop. I'm like 28 away from pro. Of course at that point I'll either have to maintain it or quit. :)

Anonymous said...

And my kids cheer for me. Do yours cheer for you?

Nestor said...

I'm out of the loop on the Wii stuff. But some of the games are definitely inappropriate. We definitely go off of the ratings to see what is appropriate. Ryan knows that he's not supposed to play T or M rated games. It's funny, he'll ask people what a game is rated and they give him this funny look like, "I don't know, why you askin'?"

Anonymous said...

I take it back. Can feel it in my shoulder and tricept. I wonder why there..that's kinda weird.

It's pretty cool..I'm enjoying it. It's neat you can do other stuff with it, too.

I'm off to the grocery to get my gr. bean stuff. I had to go to Reck's TH blog to remember what I put in it at Easter time. I remembered I said somethin about it, what didn't remember what.

Anonymous said...

A lot of people go shopping for food the day before Christmas...note to self.

RecknHavic said...

They go to shoe stores as well. Why is it that when you see a pair you like it's never in your size. Yet, there's dozen in the right size that you wouldn't wear. Now I know why I wore my last pair a dress shoes till even a homeless person would turn em down. I don't like shoppin...except at Costco...Costco's different.

Anonymous said...

Hm...don't believe I've seen dress shoes at Costco before. Aw, wear tennys...it's family. Do you guys do anything special tnite?

RecknHavic said...

Well, we are goin to church, hence the shoes. We dress up for Easter & Christmas church.

We open one gift each tonite. And there's the puttin hay on the roof for the reindeer like we did last yr thing. Prob be the last time I'm thinkin :(

Anonymous said...

That's what you said last year. :)

We're takin DIB (Dearborn Italian Bakery) pizza to my folks' along with the Wii so they can see how it works. Not our tradition, but I'm the only kid in town this year. Gotta get the kids in bed at a decent hour..I'm sure they'll be up early.

RecknHavic said...

Yall have a Merry Christmas...and enjoy all that snow!

Thanks, you too! Except for the snow part. Made a last minute gift stop at Blockbuster. Thank goodness for them! They're open tomorrow, too! Are you trackin Santa? He was over in Ireland about an hour ago.

Got the computer back. D took it to work and had a guy look at it. Saved us some bucks which is always nice.

Time to clean beans.

RecknHavic said...

Glad to see underlined Linda again.

That is last minute. Speakin a gifts, we did our traditional "open one gift on Christmas Eve" tonite. Do yall do that?

Anyhow, got me a Toodies CD, "Rubberneck". Yes...I know...I'm strange. There's a song, one a my faves from it, called "I Come From The Water"; you'd like it.

Gettat dem beans!

RecknHavic said...

Thanks for the reminder. gonna track Santa..NOW!

RecknHavic said...

Oh, then it's M&M Racin on the Wii, lil S's eve gift.

Linda said...

No, we did it when we were kids, but our kids open a lot on the Eve cuz that's when we celebrate with my folks. Seems a bit redundant to come home and open one. They went right up to bed.

I don't wanna wash beans.

Makes sense.

Let me guess..Cool Hand Luke.
