This weekend was Tony's play, Alice in Wonderland! It was very good, they do a great job. He was the Four of Clubs. The Royal Cardsmen painted the roses red, which upset the Queen of Hearts greatly. We're lucky he still has his head.

We went to an outdoor themed place for dinner. Tony insisted on getting Buffalo Balls (and managed to say "testicles" very loudly in the restaurant). Even after he heard they were simply buffalo meatballs, he wanted them anyway. I'm pretty sure he just wanted to say bb the next day in school. Gotta love middle school.

My dad's bday is 3 days before Tony's, so this is Tony translating the birthday card he made for him. (He went on line and looked up how to say what he wanted to write on the card...in Greek.)

I noticed in my last post that I caught the picture on the piano of my grandma. This was her piano, and when I was a kid, she gave it to my parents, and my dad stained it, and then when they moved a couple years ago, I was lucky enough to nab it. Thank goodness my brother lives in Seattle, because he plays much better than I do, and would have fought me for it! Anyway, on the far left is my mom's mom in the 1920s...her maiden name was Knight, which is Ben's middle name, cuz I adored her. That little statuette just looked like her, what with the hat and all. The next pic is my dad's mom and dad, and then Dave's dad's mom and dad. Gotta love old pics!

Jack's Sunset

Kind of a neat thing happened today.

My sister in law's dad died on Sunday evening this last week. At the memorial service today, her brother was doing the eulogy and said that he remembered the sunset at the time that he died. He, with Tamie and other family had left the hospital and were driving home, and they saw this beautiful sunset that was illuminating everything. They called it "Jack's Sunset". It just so happened that this sunset moved me, too, that night..so much so that I went out and tried to get the best picture of it possible. I'm not in the habit of doing this, it was just so pretty.

So I posted it on facebook, which I rarely do, post pics. Tam saw it and realized it was that same sunset and quickly copied it and made copies for her family. She included it in the slide show of pictures of him at the memorial. I was telling a friend, I was so tickled and touched that I managed to do something so meaningful for people I love without even knowing I was doing it. Very cool.

Rest in peace, BG (Big Guy)...I love you!

It's been a long week! So glad to have him in a cast from the elbow down. The splint that went up past the elbow was rough. He went with florescent green! Cracks me up the difference in the hair cut. As some as you know, Joe Klein from Time Magazine visited our family breakfast about a month ago as part of his America From the Road tour across the country to get the opinions of 'every day people'. We got minor mention in his blog, and an even smaller mention in the magazine that came out this week, that has An American Journey on the front. My sister in law, Terri, got quoted which is pretty cool. Here's the quote in case you don't run out and buy the magazine:

So I have to tell a cool little story about Tony's 5th grade graduation day. Before they handed out diplomas (photo below), the principal announced that she had some awards to give out. They were the President's Education Award for outstanding academic excellence. Apparently, if they scored above a 95% on the state test for math or language arts, they got this certificate and letter "from the White House". You get the idea. So anyway, she called 3 kids up to get the Math award and they're all Indian names..lol. So I'm like, 'ok, I get it..this is for the real smarties', when all of a sudden Tony gets his name called!! I was like "who?". He was one of TWO kids out of 81 who got it for Language Arts. I know, right? We were super proud! :)

This tour was a little less nerve wracking...most of it was more wide open. (I actually did this one 12 yrs ago when I was carrying Tony. He liked that he had been there before...haha.) To think this is just two miles of the over 367.

Native Americans of the Early Woodland period gathered minerals from MC between 2,000 and 4,000 years ago...no one knows why. Some things they left behind, like slippers, cane torches, gourds and mussel shells- remain perfectly preserved in the cave. The graffiti shown here was burned into the ceiling, but graffiti's been a federal offense since it became a national park in 1941. Thank you for visiting Mammoth Cave National Park. :)

During our stay in Kentucky, we stayed in Cave City. We quickly figured out that Cave City put a bunch of money into making touristy stuff up for the folks that stay there cuz of it's close proximity to Mammoth Cave Nat'l Park. Here's one of em that sucked us in, and actually it was pretty cool. You walked down paths and saw life sized dinos of all kinds with informational plaques telling you about em. Tony was really good at knowing them before reading to see if he was right.

My favorite part of the drive are the layers of rock by the side of the road. And the rolling hills..those are cool, too.

Had a great night watchin the Wings' last reg. season home game last night...ready for the playoffs! Started off in Greektown, took a bus to the game, watched a great come from behind win with a pretty good scrap to boot. After, we found ourselves walking in a torrential downpour trying to figure out how to get back to the car as we couldn't find that same bus. Ended up, after a few different attempts, taking a cab. Quite the ordeal.

We have a dry erase easel where we write notes, reminders, "to do" stuff, etc. Last night before I went to bed I realized Ben hadn't done his homework, so I wrote him a note. When I got up in the morning, this is what I saw. Lol...the force IS strong with him! :) Maybe I should start having 'em call me "my master".

Pinewood Derby

For all you cub scouts out there, this weekend was the famous pinewood derby. Apparently the car has to meet certain specs...it can't just look cool. So when we got there, the registration table kept sendin Dave away with the car. He'd go back to a table..do some work..and try again. This happened twice. The first time it wasn't heavy enough...so he taped a nickel on the back. The second time, not all the wheels touched the track..and as he was trying to adjust them, part of the car broke off. Again...scotch tape is our friend. Ben had that 'I'm trying really hard not to cry here' look on his face.

So the deal is, they race within each troop..the Tigers, Wolves, Bears and Weblos. Then they take the winners of those races and they go to the finals. Well...much to our surprise, the car ROCKED! He came in first within his troop, went on to the finals and came in 2nd! I've never seen a happier Ben. After the race he came running over and jumped in our arms. So cute.

I don't know how much you all dream, or how much consideration you give the dreams you do have, but I've been thinking about this lately. I'm not so much concerned about the content of the dream as I am how dreams end up the way they do....the path they take. I have 2 reoccurring dreams. One, is where I'm walking down a dark alley and I get attacked, the other is watching an airplane fall out of the sky. I had the airplane dream this morning.

Now before I saw the plane out the window, and before it crashed, I was having a chat with Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell about England. In fact, I think we were there. We were sitting around on couches, in a living room, talking. Now, my question is this: when did this dream decide to be my reoccurring dream involving the plane? Did my mind set out to end this otherwise pleasant scenario in tragedy? Or did my mind decide during the dream, to take it in a different direction?

When I see the plane, I know it's going down...and when I'm walking that familiar dark alley, I know what's coming. On occasion I'll make it down the alley, or I can wake myself before the inevitable happens. It's when I'm having another type of dream altogether and it inexplicably turns into disaster, that intrigues me. So does the dream know where it's going when it starts, or does it take on a life of it's own as it's happening? Scripted or improv?

I was going to post this and say we were a few days too late...the snow had melted. Now, I can also add that we were a few days too early, as we just got a good 6 or 7 inches of the white stuff.
Our timing is impeccable.

So I'm looking at Tony's planner today after school, (he writes down what they do that day, and I sign it), when I see this. Now call me crazy, but I read "swinger sex p.3". In my defense, he's getting the human development course this year, so it's been in the back of my mind. Unfortunately I actually said, "what's swinger sex page 3??" He explained that is says 'swingers exp.3'...'exp' meaning 'experiment'. Apparently they were swinging a pendulum or somethin. I really have to get my mind outta the gutter.
