Before

I've got a project underway and it's really no fun if there isn't a 'before' and 'after'. So here's the before of the laundry room and wood doors I'm painting. When we moved in I painted the living room trim white, but didn't take it into the laundry room. This poses the question, where do you stop? I'm thinkin 3 1/2 years later, I didn't stop in the right place. This just looks goofy. I shoulda taken the white into the inside of the trim as well. (I painted this today and it already looks tons better. ) The natural wood door looks weird, too, but I've always been afraid to do anything about it for some reason. (There's 2 doors in that room like that.) I'm excited to see the outcome.

Question: these "natural" wood doors don't, by chance, have a varnish on them do they?
Cause if they do you'll need to prime em w/ an oil based kilz (as opposed to an int latex primer) before you paint em.

RecknHavic said...

Btw, I'da lost money peggin you to be the first to post paintin pics.

Way to steal my thunder:)

Linda said...

Uh, I don't really know about the varnish. Not much of one if there is one. They weren't very shiny. Notice I said "weren't". I just primed em.

RecknHavic said...

Well, if there WAS a varnish and you primed it w/ a latex primer...uh..you recall that peelin problem you mentioned before....

Linda said...

Ck your email so I don't repeat myself, pls.

RecknHavic said...

I definitely can see a sheen on the door and the jam.

Linda said...

Oh do ya?! Do ya see a sheen?!

I'm just kiddin. I do have a headache (I wonder why) and I'm beat. Later.

RecknHavic said...

Get some rest...you're gonna need it.

Nice boot door stop btw.

gn

Linda said...

Those are the warmest boots ever made. I moved it when I started painting.

RecknHavic said...

I keep picturin you say boot.

Booooot.

Linda said...

Hey. Leave me alone.
You're the one who talks funny, let's not forget that.

The kids are gone for weekend. You heard me right. When their cousins in Traverse City come down for the weekend, their gma likes to have em so they can spend time together. We kinda like it too. ;) Too bad we don't have any plans...

RecknHavic said...

Sounds good. My plans are to put the Christmas decos up in the attic. believe me, it's a job & ahalf.

Gonna be a late nite here; takin my mother & her friend to the airport early early. They're headn to panama.

Beats me...

Linda said...

Early early, eh? So early it's really a late night? Dang, that IS early. My rents are in Seattle. Panama...it sounds warm.

If you put it off for 10 months, (they'll fly by), they'd be ready to put back out.

I really should go out. I've been in such a crap mood lately.

Nestor, on Reck's Blog on Nov. 27, 2008. Regarding the movie "Milk":

N> "It may not WIN an Oscar, but it will get nominated, and no one outside of Hollywood, San Francisco and NY (besides possibly a few people in Austin and Linda) will see it."

He's so prophetic.

Nestor said...

I wanted to see how prophetic I was. So far, Milk has made just over $24,000,000 (domestically) with a budget of $20,000,000. That's not great, but it did make it's money back. I was thinking that it would lose money.

Though, I was pretty darn close.

RecknHavic said...

Speakin a movies, we watched Madagascar 2 tomite. it was alright, but not nearly as good as the first. Course now I've got, "You gotta move it..move it" stuck in my brain.

Yep, it's early late (gotta pic up her & her friend in about 3 hrs).

Maybe Stan will be up later & keep me awake.

I thought King Julian was hilarious in this one. Course, the lemurs didn't say "goodbye freaks!" in this, which I love. Tony and I say that to each other.

I'm gettin a chai tea latte from Starbucks, loaded with caffeine. Gotta get inspired to paint. It'll probly give me the shakes, which is not the desired result, but I'll try anything at this point.

RecknHavic said...

King Julian's hilarious. "Look e1, I'm a lady,not really. Who's attacked to me?"

Fave line tho was from the head penguin when he was flyn off w/ his doll wife, "We'll be back after the honeymoon or when the gold runs out."

Clever sequel, but not as good as the 1st.

Ahhh..caffeine, the painters friend.

We decided to prime the room first. So that's done and now D's gonna do the ceiling. Then we havta let that dry before we do the walls, cuz we gotta tape the ceiling. This'll get done by March. Notice it's now a "we" project. Easier.

The zebras had some good lines, too. The big hippo who was diggin on Gloria was a treat.

Linda said...

They're reporting on Fox News that a hundred or so fisherman are stranded on a big piece of ice on Lake Erie. D's crackin up cuz his buddy called him this morning and asked him to go out there. D asked how the ice was and the guy said they were usin pieces of wood to get over the crack in the ice and D was all, "no thanks!" Fox just reported on the wood bridge. Dummies.

Home owners...

Well, I think I've narrowed down the truck hunt. Lookin at either a Chevy Silverado, Dodge Ram 1500 (tho Durango prob more in price range), Mazda B series or Ford Ranger (tho I really don't want a Ranger). Must have atleast an ext cab (tho crew cab would be better), less than 40,000mi and priced to my budget. Oh & V6 as apposed to V8.

Shouldn't be a problem :(

Nestor said...

If you want a Ranger, you may want to go to Gillespie Ford. (Just watch out, it's on the West Side ;-) ) They always advertise dirt cheap prices on Rangers. BUT, their salesmen are REAL irritating. One time I was driving around the parking lot and a salesman was walking behind the car following me around. I kept on driving to the next dealership. Salesmen need to at the very least give me one minute to get out of the car before they start trying to sell me a vehicle.

Linda said...

I know, we psyched ourselves out that we needed to. First coat of color on. :) Doors done. :)

Rumor has it Nestor's lookin for a car, too. Hm...must be the year for new cars.

It's so nice here. 47, clear skies, big moon, snow drippin off roofs...waaaaa hooooo! I shoveled the hedges, poor things. Shoulda done it sooner, but your brain doesn't work well in the cold. Especially when it involves spending more time in it. Anyway, they're breathing a bit easier w/out all that weight on their backs.
Yes, hedges have backs.

Oh and according to Fox, you'll get laid if you shop at Pajamagram.com for Val Day.

"One time I was driving around the parking lot and a salesman was walking behind the car following me around. I kept on driving to the next dealership."

Ha! I'll keep that in mind. I may go w/ a Yugo if the economy goes south.

Ps reck is weird by littel s

Uh, youngest just pushed me outta the way & felt compelled to type that I guess.

Anyhow, we watched Fireproof tonite; pretty good actually. Kinda slow and predictable at first but as it progresses it gets better. Funny thing is the actin improves as the movie progresses as well. Kurt Carmeron (not the best actor around) does well in his role. Part of the movie iffy for kids as well (which was surprising) as it deals w/ a certain type of internet addiction. I give it a solid 6.

Linda said...

I'm sorry...did you just give the same rating for a Kirk Cameron movie as you did Whale Rider??
(shaking head)

RecknHavic said...

Picked up on that did ya.

Linda said...

I'm beginning to wonder how much I DON'T pick up on.

RecknHavic said...

Actually, the two movies are similar. Underlyin spiritual theme, overcomin challenges, resolved conflict, etc , etc..

The biggest dif woulld be the quality of actin. WR was far superior in this aspect. BUT, the end of FP was quite inspiren.

RecknHavic said...

Well, back's got me outta action today. Wife & kiddos off to church. For me, it's vicadon & theragesic. really wishin I had some muscle relaxers.

On a side note, SpongeBob is way funnier after takin vicoden :)

RecknHavic said...

After perusin pics a your homestead (to critigue your paintin of course) I must say that yall've done a good job. One thing tho c/o "tapin off"; no matter how well you seal the tape, the paint always creeps underneath here & there. You're pretty artistic (oh yes you are! I've seen you knittin stuff) you should give cuttin in w/ a brush (minus tape) a go.

I'm just sayn...

RecknHavic said...

They're back & they brought me some puffy tacos. Yeah, puffy tacos!
The boy took e1 to lunch after church; he's a good boy.

Linda said...

Sorry to hear you're not feelin well. :(

What the heck's a puffy taco?

In fairness, the green room was professionally done. We had spent a long time gettin wallpaper and glue off and had painted a couple rooms, so we thought it would be worth it. It so was.

Whatta you make of the sold on tv edge trimmer tools that make it look easy w/out taping? I'd try it if I knew how. Bedroom wall is next!

Linda said...

I'm watchin High School Musical. It's got an underlyin spiritual theme, overcomin challenges, resolved conflict, etc , etc..
The only thing it's missing is Kirk Cameron.

Please don't send me a Kirk Cameron movie.

RecknHavic said...

Too late.

Those trimin gizmos don't work. In fact, all the sponge/pad dealios aren't good for gettin tight lines.

Puffy tacos are..well...puffy tacos. The taco shell itself is fluffyish. Ok, I don't know how tp describe it. I do know it's unlike a fish taco.

Linda said...

Well that's a plus.

Linda said...

Speakin of backs, T just took a spill down the stairs and hurt his, poor kid. I told him as he laid there how forunate we are that we have carpeted steps, decent padding, and that there are only 7 at a time. I'm not sure it helped. He's so dramatic..moaning "what did I do to deserve this?" Lol. Sorry, I shouldn't be laughin, but c'mon.

I was reading the comments on a TH article and someone said to check out the transcripts of some court case involving evolution and intellegent design in the Dover PA schools. Anyway, here's the link. It might be an interesting read.

RecknHavic said...

Poor little guy.

We're watchin Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. really makes you count your blessin.

Linda said...

Man are those shows sad, but it is a good reminder of just how good you have it. I was watchin the Grammys till D came in and turned it. Now it's James Bond.
Men.

RecknHavic said...

Sean Connery was the best Bond.

Glanced over that talkorigins thingy. Personally, i don't see any harm in discussin the gaps in Darwin's theory. But the thing is, the "true believers" in macro-evolution don't want that. It's like a freakin religious dogma to em. they're very intolerant people.

Linda said...

I'm gonna try to read the whole thing. I think I'll learn somethin.

Holy smokes! Just saw an ad that said the new Survivor starts on Thursday! Excellent! You guys wanna play, or are you gettin sick of that? (scared)

RecknHavic said...

For real? Yes, I must defend my title. Plus, I'm curious to see if a shela can ever win this thing :)

Btw, it just rained here. it was weird..

Linda said...

Ok good. We'll have to draft w/ in the next couple days. I was just looking at the cast and there's a lot of young folks. 2 "older" women and no older guy. Looks kinda boring really, but they all do before you get to know em better I suppose.

Rained, eh? Yeah that happens when a cloud overhead gets saturated. It's really not that weird if you learn about why it happens. ;)

The weather site says that we'll have a high of 58 and a low of 45 on Tuesday! Our snow's gonna be gone this week. Very exciting. We're toppin out above freezing all week!

Linda said...

You do have rain...looks like Austin's gonna get some, too. Course it'll miss N's house.
Man, I can't WAIT to hear thunder..

Linda said...

I'm knackered...gn!

RecknHavic said...

They seem to get younger every season.

High around 80 here manana. Good news is the jet stream looks as if it'll start dippn down our way, so we may get some rain here in the future.

Go get unknackered.

Nestor said...

Well, I heard rain for a hot second. It was one of those Texas pelting rains, it lasted for about a minute and then it stopped.

RecknHavic said...

It rained alittle here last nite, tho nothin major. I did see some actual mud when I let the dogs out earlier.

I know...

Linda said...

Mud. Lol..

I shoveled the deck the other day to get to the grill? Shoulda just waited a couple days. The Roxie paths are all grass now. (Easier to see from the sky). Thinkin about hittin Costco today.

Linda said...

I've had 2 dreams now where I'm on the payroll as some sort of writer for GB. If I could do a Fantasy Island type thing? And it had to be G rated? That's what I'd do.

RecknHavic said...

Glad to hear yall'er thawin out.

"If I could do a Fantasy Island type thing? And it had to be G rated? That's what I'd do."

Guess that leaves out the rich Corinthian leather.

Enjoy Costco.

It's been pretty much Germany/Seattle type weather here today. Sometimes overcast, sometimes dreary with intermittent periods of drizzle, mist or no rain. Hey, we'll take what we can get since we've had like 10 inches of rain in a year and a half. Before the drought I think we had like 70 inches of rain the year before that.
