Flight 93

With atlas in hand, we headed Southeast toward D.C. Because I read maps pretty much the entire time we're driving, I happened to notice that the Flight 93 Memorial was not far off the Pennsylvania turnpike. It was cold and windy, but we really wanted to check it out. It was kind of a quaint drive in..mostly fields and farms, and what houses there were were small and old. A lot of run down dwellings and some log cabin homes. It's not marked very well, for those of you who find yourselves in the area. Do your research before you go. (My uncle did it for us over the phone.) As it stands, I guess the memorial is temporary, as they're gonna build a permanent one.

When you're at the memorial, if you look straight on, there's a natural pond in the field. If you look off to your right, in the distance, you can see a fenced off area with an American flag hung on it. You don't get close to it. That's right where the plane went down. Up by the parking lot, there's a small booth with some info, the long fence where people leave things, and benches with all the names of the deceased, among other homemade items. While we were standing there, the winds picked up with gusts I'd guess at least up to 35 mph, and the snow came down in sheets. Brutal. By the time we ran to the car, you couldn't even see the fenced off area with the flag. I got a shot off with my zoom lens before it got that bad...I hope you can see it ok.

I'm really pleased we decided to see it.
For more info, here's a nice link:

That's pretty neat yall went there. Honestly, I was expectin alittle more, tho I think there's a conflict w/ the people that own the field.

Glad yall went to see it.

We get GB. Come on, I know you're jealous.

Oh my gosh, Reck. I can't even describe that snow and wind. I don't think I've felt anything like it, and that's sayin something. I got to the car and yelped it was so bad.

I'm hopin Sharp wears those plaid shorts from the 4th of July party.

You're thinkin a the Prince of Wails (wailer), tho he & Mrs. Wailer are goin to the one in H-town. Sharp's my cuz.

That musta been some bad weather if it made you Eskimos run for cover.

Boy I'll tell ya...that vacation came at a good time. While most people went to Florida, and our temps weren't great...just getting to where the grass was green and there were flowers blooming, was nice. I actually sneezed because of fresh cut grass! Yea!!

I'm serious when I say it gets to you. I struggle with it, though, cuz if we didn't go through that, would we appreciate summer as much? Probably not. Then when the fall winds blow, we appreciate that, too. I guess we do a lot of appreciating around here.

But it's funny to hear people round this time...just dying for some warmth. I texted you from the marina in St. Michaels..did you ever get that?

I don't think so. Least I don't remember that one.

Go figure.

Really glad yall were able to get away from the hub0bub for awhile.

This morning I had a dream that I was in some sort of old/historical leather shop, and I hit the mother load in leather bookmarks. As far as dreams go, I'm thinkin that ranks pretty high on the ol' lame-o-meter.

That should rank right up there.

Ok, I slept late today (which felt GREAT btw). Usually if I get alotta sleep I'll have a dream I remember; as I did today. And guess what, you & Dave were in it.

Here's how it went:
S & I, you & Dave, Sharp & his wife & some other couples were at a dinner party at a restaurant (which was in a high rise over-lookin a highway that was under construction). There was an injured cat layn in the lane (near one of those half cement walls they put dividin the opposite goin lanes; in the center). We were all starin out the window worried about the cat. I said it was too dangerous to try to go & Dave agreed w/ me) & rescue it. Sharp went anyhow. He got the cat & stood on that wall & somehow leaped the entire way over the two lanes of traffic, rescuin the cat. The jump, however, broke his back.
Now (you know how dreams cut to diff things) myself, Sharp, and a bunch of guys (one was buddy a mine from HS; the rest I have no idea) were stranded in the ocean floatin on 2 by 4s. Anyhow, we had em latched together (in my opinion) wrong, with a bunch of the wood that was rotten in the wrong places. I kept sayn, "it's not gonna hold up" but noone would listen. Finally our "raft" started breakin up; that's when I cobbled together a sturdier structure (somehow w/ a shaded top much like the umbrella we just got for our back yard). Suddenly me & all the guys are at a Chili's restaurant and we're orderin some food (most a my dreams involve food in some way :)) still wearin our tattered, wet clothes & a couple of em had set up some tables to play blackjack. I skipped the gm & the food and went home.

I woke up hungry.

Oh my gosh...that's hilarious! I'm giggling out loud. I was laughin at Sharp's big jump till he broke his back and then went "ooh". Way to ruin a good superhuman bit. Sitting in Chilis with your Lost clothes on. I love it.
