Here's a song that my friend, Matt and I did last night. (He's on guitar..I don't play.) We didn't set out to "record" anything last night, so this is really just our first attempt at this. We want to do more and hopefully we'll get better and more picky about final results...but we sorta just wanted to get something down to see how it sounded. Also, this is just a computer software program..nothin fancy, so it won't...ok, I think I've made enough excuses.

Wow! That was seriously good. I had no idea you could sing like that. Sorta gotta a Heart (Wilson's the name I think) thing goin on.
Very impressed and kinda shocked (no offense :))
None taken...I might be offended if you said you thought I'd be BETTER. Thank you!
Well done, Linda!!!!
(and nice to see the WRECK again. :-) )
BTW: The "steel horse that I ride" is the railroads, IMHO.
Sup Stan. hadn't *SPOKEN* w/ you in awhile, figured you'd moved to Copenhagen and gone green on us.
Yeah, L rocked that song, didn't she?
Sugg for your next song, "Kick It Out"; w/in your range I'm thinkn.
Thanks, Stan. :)
Awww..I feel all warm and fuzzy having the GBers all back together! And it's Christmas..and..ok, I'll shut up.
Stan can be forgiven for his absence; tough gettn over that abject sense of disappointment and failure in Obama when you *WERE* such an ardent supporter.
Well my warm and fuzzy lasted for a LITTLE while at least. ;)
Well our weather is getting funky starting now. Snowing now..rain in the morning, followed by snow in the afternoon with gusts of wind up to 50 mph.
Yeaahhh...think I'll stay in tomorrow.
Ah, it doesn't amaze me at how good Republican'ts like Reck are at intentionally forgetting history.
Like for instance, Reck knows that I supported Kucinich for President in the last election.
So Reck, how did that Sarah Palin thing work out for yous guys????
So Linda, where's "Empty"?
Linda @ December 8, 2009 10:31 PM,
Sounds pretty up there 4 yous guys ... :-)
We actually had like 8 hours of snow on like the 4th of this month. Pretty much was gone by the next morning.
That was the earliest recorded snow accumulation in Houston history ...

I assume you're suggesting that to Linda. :-)
My sugg for her next song: Hit Me With Your Best Shot (I think that's Pat Benatar) ...
I know perfectly well you're a Kucinich guy; and I respect that.
Things are workin out prteey well for Sarah, judging from her book sales ans the stir she still creates. I'd say she's doin alittle better than Kucinich. I'm sorry, does he not have a bestseller currently out? Not to worry tho, I'm sure he'll dbl his support in the mext demo prime and garner 17 more votes.
yeah, the snow yall got was cool; happy for you guys.
S> "So Linda, where's "Empty"?"
Not sure I follow you. I take that back..I'm very sure I don't follow you! ;) ???
Heard about the Houston snow..very exciting!
Reck -

Your problem is that you don't admit that it's your right-wing extremist media that's actually what's creating the "stir".

Red-herring, my friend. I asked how things were working out for you, not how things are working out for the former Governer of Alaska.
Another sugg for Linda's next tune, and I'll agree with Reck in that it's a Heart tune. Magic Man. Dedicated to me, of course. ;-)
Good suggs, fellas..not sure I wanna cover Heart tho..tough act to follow.

Can't blame you 4 that (because you're 100% correct.) I'd also suggest Crazy On You, but you'd have to dedicate it to Reck and/or "Empty". :-)
Picking up Christmas cards today..can't wait to see how they turned out! Freakin cold again today. I can't believe D's sittin out in 8 inches of snow with a black powder gun waiting for a deer to walk by. Weirdo. His wind chill is currently -17, btw.
Stan,
It worked out well for "us guys" as Palin represents conservatives. Her successes are, in effect, ours.
"Your problem is that you don't admit that it's your right-wing extremist media that's actually what's creating the "stir"."
Red-herring my friend; there's no such thing as right-wing media. The State *RUN* Media continues to do a hatchet job on her and only increases her popularity; much the same way they attacked B. Clinton (tho obviously for diff reasons).
Go Rockets!
There's no such thing as -17 degrees :)
Reck -
> There's no such thing as -17 degrees :)
Sure there is. Besides that, she said -17 "windchill".
I experienced -16 (without the windchill effect) in Utah when I lived there (that's the lowest temp. I've ever experienced). I took that opportunity to drive to Lava Hot Springs in Idaho (about 2 hours aWAY from SLC), and it was an experience. Thankfully not a bad experience for me (there were alot of cars on the side of the road as I drove back and forth ... )

The right-wing extremist media (the RWLTPC (Right Wing Lying Type Propaganda Campaign), specificly.
> Unless a better candidate emerges, yes, I'll support Sarah.
Dud, even you would be a better candidate.
But *PLEASE*, *PLEASE* (me, 'cause it will definitely benefit the left if you) continue to support the former Governor of Alaska.
Ok, I have another couple of suggestions for Reck for better candidates than Sarah Palin: How about Gary Kubiack (sp?)???? What about Wade Phillips????
What do ya think, buddy?
Reck, check out the latest post on my blog ( http://tbsn.thesequencers.us/?p=292 ),
Stan
Linda, I just heard it. It was seriously really good. I look forward to hearing more songs like this.
Stan,
You a Texans and/or Cowgirls fan?
I doubt at this point Palin runs in 2012; we'll see. I don't know that she could raise the money needed in time TO run anyhow (certainly the RNC will not support her). Other than her, I haven't seen a potential repub candidate (Roomney, the preacher dude, etc) that I would support.
Hutchison For Texas Governor 2010!
Thanks Nestor! Was startin to get a complex cuz you hadn't come around! ;)
Reck for president!!
Reck -
> Hutchison For Texas Governor 2010!
I don't really see much of a difference between her and Perry.
And since Bill White ran for Houston mayor on synchronizing signal lights in Houston, and whilst he did do that, he hasn't kept them synced.
I still prefer him to either of the Republican'ts running, though. Both he and Perry performed well during the after effects of Hurricane Katrina (in welcoming our neighbors in need), though. Hutchison? I really don't think she's done much of anything, especially as a Senator, so I think the better race would be a Perry v. White race.
Hey Nestor! You should check out my latest post on my blog as well.
So I'm in the market for a new toaster. I've had mine for 15 years, and while it still works, it has narrow slots that mangle anything wider than a slice of Aunt Millies. I went to Amazon and was reading reviews, and I stumbled onto a bread box, which is also a possibility as the bread, buns, etc., just lay on the counter. (Which incidentally, I happen to know, drives my mother CRAZY.) Anyway..there were 25 reviews for a bread box! It's a BREAD BOX, people! How much can you possibly say?! "Um...it holds 2 loaves of bread!" Good grief.
Just in case you don't believe me...
"This is a wonderful product. I am able to put a loaf of white bread, pita bread and French loaf inside the box. I am also able to put other products on top of the box which helps to keep my countertop from being cluttered."
E.H. Labuda took time out of her day to write this. I'm especially glad she included the tip of putting things ON TOP of the bread box. See...I would have never thought of that.
"...so I think the better race would be a Perry v. White race."
Will most likely be the race. I'll say this tho, if it is, I'm votin for White. Perry's a MAJOR toll road guy and a ttl DW! Tho you are correct, both did respond well durin Kat.

I think I best not splain that one. Those who know, know.
Have you heard the ads on the radio for the Hollywood Cookie Diet? Says you substitute 2 of their special cookies for breakfast and lunch and then you eat a reasonable dinner. Weight loss guaranteed!
Ummm...I could have invented that diet using Oreos. If all I ate all day was 4 Oreos, I'd lose weight, too.
And then they say to go ahead and compare it to other cookie diets.
There are OTHER cookie diets??

I certainly can't dispute that Perry's both of those, except that he did perform well (though I thought that Bill White took the lead) during the after effects of Katrina.
So it's not total.
And I'd say that it's unfair to your opposition in that we can't really go around calling a female a ttl dw.
That's not to say that she doesn't usually act like one, but it's just not pc to be doing that. :-)
Yep, barn burners for both 1st & last. I'm sayn Natalie wins it all.
No Stan, she's not a dw; not hardly. If you're curious as to her record (I seem to recall you mentioning somethin about her not doin anything, in your opinion) go to her website; her record is readily available there.

Btw, Bill White could be the best *LEFT* challenger the Texas Dims have put up for Gov in yrs.
5:30 am? Someone either got up really early or was up waaaay too late. My guess is the latter.
Ben mentioned that the tree looks like it's leaning more than before. We don't play by the tree...we don't walk quickly by the tree (breeze)...we don't even look it in the eye, in fear it may fall. It appears now that I must also forbid even speaking of the tree. It just has to last us one more week.

Well, she's no Sarah Palin. But that's not saying much.

Bill White is running as a Democrat, not a Republican't.
And Bill White is much more to the center than he is to the left, IMHO.
Yes, it was late; finished up that restaurant job.
Ha! My advice is too maybe REASON w/ the tree.
Soo...we're in H-town tonite, arrived about an hour ago. The girls jump manana. Dev is super excited and S has alook on her face that can best be described as "desperate".

How long 4???? Maybe we should get together for breakfast (in America) or dinner or something.
Yep, in H-town. No time tho, my wife & oldest are goin sky diving in a few hrs and then we're headn back to Hill Co.
Thanks for the thought tho.
Well, I could try to reason with it, but that would require speaking to it...and that's far too brazen.
Have a fun day! Looking forward to hearing how it goes!
I'll be surrounded by my crazy Italian family all day. This party is a lot of fun...gotta cut up my veggies.
About the whole governor's race thing. I don't really care about the toll road. Living in Austin, it would really suck without the toll roads. They go to most of the places I usually go around town, North Austin, Cedar Park and Round Rock, so they've made travel for me about 72% improved. I don't agree with randomly taking land from people, however, the roads are necessary.
What I didn't like about Perry was his push for the HPV vaccine for 12 year olds. That really got me PO'd.
Hutchison though? She's the reason why there's no border fence. Because there's no border fence, we have an increased burden on our healthcare system in Texas. Becuase of that we have to raise taxes to cover all of the costs of the illegals here. So I WILL NOT vote for her in the Primary.
I'll vote for either Perry or Debra Medina in the primary. I haven't looked at Medina's website in a while, so I'm not sure where things are going for her, and if she still stands for the things she said she stood for. But either way, I don't see myself voting for White in the general. After the primary, I'll look at all of the candidates running, but I'd say as of right now there's only a 5% chance of me voting for a Democrat in the Governor's race.
Linda,
Yeah, I've been gone for a while. Between the end of the semester and some other opportunities we're working on, I haven't had much computer time. I hope you all are doing well and have a Merry Christmas if I can't get back for a few days.
Thanks Nestor..back atcha!
Just changed my ringtone to the Austin Powers movie theme song. It's impossible to not smile when that song is on. I don't think a happier tune has been written. Makes me wanna don my go-go boots and cut a rug.
You'll hafta splain me how Hutchison single-handedly prevented the border fence. Besides Duncan Hunter, I know of few who actively fought for the thing (and if memory serves me right, I don't recall you bein a Hunter supporter).
The vaccine thing W/ Perry is certainly a huge strike against him. But, the fact that he sets himself above the "common man" (recall the video where he asks the State Trooper who stopped his SUV, "Do you KNOW who I am, do you wanna see MY drivers license?". I'll never vote for that JO.
My beef w/ toll roads isn't so much imminent domain as it's buildin em on existing roads that we've already paid for. That and the inflated costs.
Kay Bailey was the author of the amendment that struck down the border fence. It was worded in a way that gave "power" to local authorities to put the fence up as they saw fit. But you see how that worked out. It was exactly what they intended. Besides, it is a FEDERAL border isn't it? You know how I don't like giving the Feds power, but I do like them exercising one of the few constitutional powers they actually have.
I'm in total agreement with you on putting tolls on roads that have already been paid for. However, if there is a situation where they throw in an access road...I don't know. Having a toll on 281 North would make your trip from Costco to Bulverde a lot smoother wouldn't it? Especially if you still had the opportunity to avoid the toll by taking the access road. They are talking about extending the highway portion of 290 (which is about 3 miles now) all the way to Manor (about 6 more miles) and making the portion from the 130 tollroad to 183 a toll and the existing portion from 183 to 35 would remain toll-free. This would include an access road and while I'd hate to pay the toll, I'd like the option to pay the toll and avoid the insane Austin traffic. During traffic times, a 25 minute trip on 290 becomes 1 hour 15 minutes.
Good luck to little s today!!
With all that's goin on today..try not to take your eye off the ball. There are THREE evictions tonight..and then pickin the winner. Y'all have a lot to think about..don't get distracted.

I know! A 'best of'! And it's starts in less in 2 months! I love this show!!
I think ya'll are all mixed up on Perry's and Hutchison's positions.
Like, doesn't the border fence exist (except that it's not completed due to local opposition of it in certain places)?
And isn't the HPV vaccine something that prevents cancer in women? No wonder ya'll might not like it.
And on Perry getting stopped, and trying to pull rank, are you certain that wasn't a Governor of a different state that did that?
On the toll roads on existing roadways, I agree. Except if they do it like they did it on the new Katy freeway here, in which they went from 3 lanes free to 5 lanes free + 2 lanes toll (each direction.) That certainly solved traffic problems on the Katy.
As far as eminent domain like Perry plans for the proposed supertollways (which is what I think Reck is really referring to), I agree that that's too much land going to eminent domain.
Stan,
The HPV vaccine has unproven effectiveness...especially in 12 year old children. It was going to be mandated without being proven effective for a broad population (no pun intended). Look at the H1N1 vaccine that was just recalled for it's being ineffective. Any drug that comes on the market has very little testing to back up its effectiveness and the real test is once it hits the market. No government should have the right to force children to be a testing ground for unproven vaccines. But Perry was shot down in a bipartisan effort for his overreaching on that issue.
On the Hutchison border issue: I know her amendment was responsible for killing the fence, because I e-mailed her concerning it. Some staffer sent a fiery return e-mail essentially saying people (read: rock-ribbed conservatives) were misrepresenting her position and what the amendment really did. Due to the heated nature of the response, I knew that I was right.
Reck,
Per your question as to whether it was for a border fence for the states. It was an amendment to the 1000 or so miles of fence that were passed a few years ago. Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo and a few others fought very hard for that fence legislation. Her amendment gave local authorities, like Laredo and other border towns and counties the power to erect the FEDERAL Border fence as they saw fit. They're not seeing fit to put up a fence.
For the Texans here, I give my official endorsement:
Debra Medina for Governor of Texas

> ... Having a toll on 281 North would make your trip from Costco to Bulverde a lot smoother wouldn't it? Especially if you still had the opportunity to avoid the toll by taking the access road. ...
We have an example of that already. Our Sam Houston Tollway and Beltway 8.
What made it happen, is that when the toll authority wanted to create the SHT on the Beltway 8 right of way, they agreed to complete Beltway 8. So the main roadway is the tollway, and the access road is Beltway 8, and indeed, (except for the toll bridge over the Ship Channel), you can now take that loop for free.
Nestor, you don't think that climate change and evolution is proven.
So, since you got this neato letter from Sen. Hutchison, how about posting it????
Nestor -
> ... Her amendment gave local authorities, like Laredo and other border towns and counties the power to erect the FEDERAL Border fence as they saw fit. They're not seeing fit to put up a fence.
Good for her!!!! So maybe she has done something. :-)
I'll still vote White over her (and also over Medina.)
Stan, I looked for the letter, but I don't have it anymore. I wanted to keep it just in case I wanted to look back at it for a nice laugh, but I think I deleted it one day accidentally when I cleared out my inbox.
Stan,
Climate Change and Evolution are theories. But as to my belief or non-belief in them I'd say this. The ice in Antarctica has been melting for 5000 years, but recently stopped melting and began thickening. It must have been those darn Mesopotamians that caused Global Warming 5000 years ago that started the ice melt. If you want more info about "global warming", here's some. My mom in North Carolina has been stuck all weekend buried under a foot of snow. How's that for global warming?
As far as evolution goes, I believe in microevolution. However, macroevolution has so many holes that it can not reasonably be shown as proof of anything. Even if macroevolution exists, which I don't believe it does,(at least the way the theory explains it) there is still no reasonable explanation as to the origin of life. Evolution may explain (very unlikely however) how we have diversified forms of life, but it can't even possibly attempt to explain the origin of life. And no, saying the first organism possibly formed on the backs of crystals from a few amino acids doesn't explain the origin of life.
Linda,
I'd like a Detroiter's (is that how you say it?) perspective on this video. Let me know what you think.

When she's (Sen. Hutchison) contacted me, she wrote me an actual letter (signed with one of those fake mechanical autograph machines.) I admit that I didn't save that, though. :-)
> Climate Change and Evolution are theories. ...
Have you ever heard of the theory of Gravity????
Wade Phillips' Cowboys just defeated an undefeated team.
Gary Kubiack's Texas just barely defeated a like 1 or two win team.
Interestingly, the quarterback of the Rams (which the Texans just barely defeated), (here's the big trivia note), as I understand it, backed up the quarterback at like West Texas A & M, who happened to be the son of Wade Phillips.
Still, Wade, Garry, Nun, Wade's son, Wade's father, Matt Shaub, Sage Rosenfelds, David Carr (and many, many more) all would be better candidates than Sarah Palin.
Nest,
"Her amendment gave local authorities, like Laredo and other border towns and counties the power to erect the FEDERAL Border fence as they saw fit."
Strugglin to see how Hutchison holds ttl blame for no fence based on this.
Anyhow, I like Medina as well, but she stands NO chance in the primary. I'll support Kay in hopes she defeats Rick "Do you know how important I am" Perry.
Stan,
You're obviously in love w/ Sarah Palin.
Re Global Climate Change:
In science there are things called laws. These "laws" are arguably w/out dispute (until someone disproves them). Not even the most biased AGW peeps make the claim that carbon induced heating is a physical law. There is no *REAL* consensus on man made climate heating. if you really are serious about adverse effects on climate and how it affects mankind, take a look at real atmospheric pollutants such as methane, etc.
Stan,
I've never heard of the theory of gravity. I've heard of the LAW of gravity though. If you jump off of a four story building, do you think you'll find gravity to be a theory or a law?
However, there is significant evidence that goes against the theories of man-made global warming, and against the theory of evolution. Those two theories are unproven and furthermore, the theory of global warming has been disproven. Every single prediction that Al Gore and the global warming alarmists have made has not come true. (at least if they've had any come true, I'm unaware of it) The cataclysmic sea level "rise" that was predicted as been proven false, ice melt has been not come true, in fact, Antarctic ice is thickening, temperatures have decreased and predicted increases in Atlantic Storm activity have been wrong.
The Torah has something to say about this:
"If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him." - Deuteronomy 18:22
Reck,
The amendment is what killed the border fence. If that amendment wasn't introduced, the fence would have had to have gone up by law. Hutchison introduced the amendment. If she didn't introduce it, we'd have a fence right now. Unless someone else introduced it, but it doesn't really matter because she did it. It's hard to flex conservative bonafides when you fought against border security, one of the few constitutional authorities of the Federal Government.
Nest,
Ok, I understand now.
Nestor..
Well it's sad isn't it? I can't speak to the 'whys' really...but what he said makes a lot of sense. Guess I don't need to take pictures of downtown for the blog tomorrow night when I head down for dinner and the Wings game. The abandoned buildings down there make me so sad. They just need to level it.
You know, Nestor, electricity is just a theory as well. ;-)
Ok, 4U Nestor, we'll rename it to "the law of evolution." Happy now, Nestor????
Reck, please explain how I'm supposedly in love with Sarah Palin.
GM really did a number on Detroit, eh Linda???? (oh, and Flint)
(see Roger and Me)
A number has been done, to be sure.
I thought this convo I just had was funny...
B: Mom, what was the last football game you went to?
L: I dunno..probably the Lions.
B: Did they lose?
L: I've no idea.
B: Probably. I remember when the Lions were good.
L: No you don't.
Funny conversation. Were they even really good when Barry Sanders was there? It seems like when he was there, the Lions won about two to three games a year, and Barry single-handedly won six. I'm sorry he retired on ya.
Don't forget UH's Heisman winner, Andre Ware; he warmed the Lions bench perhaps better than any other overpaid player. YES!
Merry Christmas to ALLL the readers here!
I was the second one up for a change..only Ben beat me. Gifts opened..green bean casserole and sweet potato souffle in the oven. (The sp were bought..and not even by me.) We're off to the in-laws in an hour for the final installment of the festivities.
Hope you all have a great day!
Merry Christmas to yall too!
We're at inlaws. Been a good holiday so far, chilly here.
New post at Recksblog btw, no big deal, a few pics.

A belated Merry Christmas. Sounds like you all had a good time. Hope you all have a great new year!
Speaking of "Dead or Alive", "IT'S ALIVE!!!!". The "Who's Stan" Texans of course. Yes we lost control when we got beat by the Titans, but I did not think we would have as much of a chance as we still do at this time.
If we lose next week (against the Patriots), we're out. But if we win we have as much as about a 30% chance of making the playoffs (depending upon what other teams do)!!!!
Our best chance, if it comes down to a tiebreaker thing, is to be tied with Pittsburg (sp?). What we really need is two of the three leading (in the wild card race) to lose next week (along with us winning, of course.)

It'll never happen Stan.
Reck, "Never Say Never".
Sure it's not likely to happen, but it's still a possibility (and I have to say, it's the best position the Texans have been in the last week of the season in their existence.)
It would've helped if the Colts stayed unbeaten (I think it would've meant that we only needed 1 of the other 2 to lose next week (along with us winning.) But the Colts did earn the ability to rest their starters.
It would be funny if it was the other 2 losing this week, and the Jets ended up playing the Colts and eliminate them, though.
Reck, "Never Say Never".
Think Losing Control wasn't really about football???? ;-)
