Happy 2010

Ice Fishing on Au Sable Lake!

Setting up shop. Like Don's new ice auger? It practically drills by itself!

Dropping in the under water camera...

Getting the depth finder all set....

Ready for serious fishing in the Shappell S3000..

All the effort paying off...well, kinda.

The reward for all the hard work. See the lobster, shrimp and crab we caught??

Well, the gadgets paying off ... :-)

Linda said...

Ha..no kidding. Who knew you needed so much stuff?

Stan Rosenthal said...

I think that real Americans (the Indians) could catch fish on a frozen lake without all that stuff.

Linda, I consider my 'Fireplace Experiment' to be a total success.

I mean , I didn't burn my apartment complex down. :-)

Only ashes left now, soon to close the flue.

What I found interesting about the "experiment" is that it never really started to heat the room until the bricks of the fireplace got heated by the fire. Even though somewhat raging before then, the fire itself wasn't emitting very much heat (I think most of that was going up the chimney.)

Linda said...

I'm pretty sure you're right about the Indians.

Glad you enjoyed your fire. Interesting about the brick...I find it helps to have the stuff under the fire really hot to get good heat, too. Not sure if you just had the pressed log or if you threw wood on there. (Not that you've never had a fire before.)

I've got lots of shoveling to do today!

Linda said...

Oh man..my neighbor, Mike, just saved me!!

I wasn't gonna mention this, cuz I complain enough..but I hurt my back the other day. Just wrong turn at the wrong time and shazaam! So that hurts. Then last night I fell down the stairs. Yeah, I wasn't gonna mention that either. I awoke at 6:30 to Roxie throwing up, so I whisked her off the bed and went down to take her outside. Mind you I was half awake, with no contacts in so couldn't see..not that that matters as it was dark. I thought I was at the bottom, but apparently there were a few more stairs...so down I went. (Lucky for me I'm so graceful, or that coulda been really bad.)

Anyway..back to my neighbor. I was just out shoveling, (couldn't find my good shovel with the bent handle..better for the back)...we got about 5 inches of the heavy stuff last night. So I'm out there thinking I'd have to do this in increments..maybe tackle the driveway a quarter at a time...when lo and behold my neighbor pulls up with a plow on the front of his truck, and waves at me to get out of the way!! My car is in the drive, so it wasn't the whole thing, but man was that nice!! Saved me a bunch. (P.S. my back really freakin hurts now.)

You're BACK
You're back with the shovel again

(sing to what, Aerosmith's Back In The Saddle?)

Sorry about your pain, but at least you were able to shovel ...

As far as my fireplace experience, no, I only used pressed firelogs by themself. I agree that that by themself, isn't much of a fire.

What's that dark stuff in the middle? Looks like some yummy steak or prime rib you didn't catch (but still yummy looking)!!!!

Linda said...

Thanks, Stan.

THAT was filet mignon..marinated over night and wrapped in bacon. Yummy is an understatement! :)

RecknHavic said...

I suppose that you could hunt big gm w/ a stick as well Stan. It's called progress, scr*w the indians.

RecknHavic said...

What kinda bait did yall use for the filet mignon?

Hope there's a heater in that tent thing, looks freezin. And are you sure that ice is thick enough, looks a bit thin to me.

Sorry to hear about the ol back.

Linda said...

Waiting for Stan's remark about Reck advocating progress. I'm thinking maybe..oh forget it, I'll wait.

Ha...the ice was fine. When it's questionable, they go out with sticks and poke first. I know. Yep..there's a heater in the shanty. It's called a shanty.

Wow..anyone watching GB and Arizona? Some game!

I just heard that the winter Olympics start Feb 12?? Fun! I had no idea! Hmmm...I wonder if there's a way to place bets on the Olympics with the Havics....

I'm gonna guess you know what I'm about to say ...

Nestor's idea of progress???? "screw the Indians."

Stan Rosenthal said...

Oops, sorry Nestor. I meant Reck. Admit it yous guys, you're hard to tell apart.

RecknHavic said...

"When it's questionable, they go out with sticks and poke first."

Yea...uh huh....sounds ..safe.

Make big apology to injun. Heart heavy, many tears.

As Michael Steele would say (except he wouldn't say it in the format of a question), "honest injun"????

Seriously Reck, are you serius in your (supposed) apology?

Your friend,

Stan

All I can think about at this moment, is a package delivered to me from Michigan in dry ice sometime in the future when you next cook that dish ...

Stan Rosenthal said...

Reck -

I suppose that buffalo is big game. And arrows are sticks.

We should have real Indians rule us, is what I think you're saying, Reck.

Linda said...

Lol! I HOPE that's not Reck's idea of sincerity! Made me laugh, tho.

Ha Stan. Woulda shared it with you if I could've! (Maybe.)

RecknHavic said...

Well I suppose if we wanted one huge casino from coast to coast we could turn things over to the Indian Nations. I actually do think the native Americans got a raw way back when. Hell, I spent 20 sumodd yrs hittn the peace pipe for that exact reason. I moved on...so should the indians.

Stan Rosenthal said...

So Reck, where exactly to you expect the Indians to "move on" to????

1 "trail of tears" isn't enough 4U????

RecknHavic said...

"1 "trail of tears" isn't enough 4U????"

Remember the Bataan Death March? We moved on, in fact, Japan is one of our strongest allies now.

Stan Rosenthal said...

So Reck, you think that the Japanese are superior to Americans (the Indians)????

I happen to think that the Indians are smarter than the Japanese (well, when it comes to electronics, it might be debatable.)

Y do you hate America????

Stan Rosenthal said...

PING Reck, repeating -
>> So Reck, where exactly to you expect the Indians to "move on" to????

I don't recall you responding to this question of curiosity.

Bonanza....the restaurant.

If you mean the ones from India, you may be right.

You never dud respond to my earlier comment when I used an authentic Indian dialect. Or didn't you Reid it?

Stan Rosenthal said...

There aren't that many of those left anymore (StanNote for disclaimer purposes: my first job was at a Bonanza steakhouse)

I know of one in Louisiana, but do you really expect Indians to convert to Cajunism????

See my comment @ January 14, 2010 3:36 AM.

I think you've been watching too many reruns of The Lone Ranger.

RecknHavic said...

"I think you've been watching too many reruns of The Lone Ranger."

Stan, are you intentionally blockin out Harry Reid's "negro dialect' statement, or do they not report that stuff on NPR?

You worked at Bonanza? Cool, I loved that place when I was a kid. I think there was one on Gessner yrs ago.

RecknHavic said...

Any thoughts on the Mass senate race tues? Anybody?

Stan Rosenthal said...

Reck, if you think I'm a fan of Reid, you're nuts. But not because of his silly statement. It's because he sucks as a leader.

Stan Rosenthal said...

> Any thoughts on the Mass senate race tues? Anybody?

Not only does he (Reck) hate America, he hates Texas. ;-)

RecknHavic said...

"I'm a fan of Reid.."

Stan, why do YOU hate America so?

Stan Rosenthal said...

Reck -
> I'm a fan of Reid

It's funny you would turn into a Democrat when they're turning into Republican'ts.

Stan Rosenthal said...

For those reading that have heard Cons(ervatives) whining about their statements being taken out of context (in an attempt at a 'red-herring' to distract from the actual complaint), here's an example of something taken out of context -

Reck (supposedly) quotes me -
> "I'm a fan of Reid.." Stan ...

Here's what I actually said -
>> Reck, if you think I'm a fan of Reid, you're nuts. But not because of his silly statement. It's because he sucks as a leader.

Linda said...

Lol..that's what made it funny, silly! :)

Thanks for makin my point dud.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Dud, you have no point. You only have obstruction.

Nestor said...

I just read this thread. Good stuff Reck. I can tell you had a good time setting him up for that.

Best line: "Make big apology to injun. Heart heavy, many tears."

2nd Best line: (Quoting Stan) "I'm a fan of Reid"

Someone who didn't know you might think you hate Indians from all of you insensitive comments, but me and Linda are smart enough to know that you were joking with the sole purpose of giving Stan crap.

Then, pulling Stan out of context was great. If I suffer through an Olbermann video every now and then to post an intelligent comment on Stan's blog, he can at least get a taste of what it's like to be pulled out of context.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor, you(/Reck) can take me out of context all you want to. It's called freedom of speech. Sticks and stones, you know.

But you shouldn't complain (even though you have the right to) when I point out that it's actually you that take people out of context.

Your in context friend,

Stan

Come on now, Nestor. That has to at least be in the top two lines of this thread. Be Sirius, dud!!!!
