Do I need to watch this for any reason (and please tell me what the reason(s) "R" if the answer is yes)?

Ah, classic teleprompter jokes. I haven't been to one of my favorite blogs in a while,

baracksteleprompter.blogspot.com

I think I'll go there now.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor my friend, I hate to tell you this (I mean, I hate to burst your bubble), but teleprompter jokes aren't funny.

Linda said...

No Stan, you don't. I thought it was cute, tho.

Really..the positivity here lately has been overwhelming. I just try to throw stuff up here occasionally that I think might bring you a chuckle, but as it's not working, I think I'll take a break.

Linda, I like your recent posts, even if Stan "The Mad Democrat" Rosenthal doesn't. Keep 'em comin'!

Linda said...

I'm sorry, Nestor..I thought you were being snarky in comment 2. My bad.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor, FYI I'm not a Democrat. I'm an independent (that usually votes Democratic.)

I am (or was), though, the one and only "Mad Cashier".

Sorry Stan,

I understand being falsely tied to a party you disagree with on a number of issues. How about, "The Mad Liberal"?

Did my comment come off as snarky? My bad. I really like the Obama teleprompter jokes. If you haven't been to baracksteleprompter.blogspot.com, you should check it out.

Linda said...

Ha..I checked it out. No, I just totally misread you. It happens through type as we all know. I may spend too much time around sarcasm..I didn't recognize the lack of it.

I was just saying how mild our winter has been, and today is just brutal! Had a meeting this morning at the school, and it says the wind chill is -7, but I gotta say it was colder than that. Wind is whippin!

I think we're supposed to get some bad weather as well today. It's raining now, we'll see how it'll be tomorrow.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor's bad weather will equate to lower 30's (but not quite freezing) here.

There are many more than one of those. There's only one "mad cashier". :-)

> Did my comment come off as snarky? My bad.

Dude, all you comments come off as snarky.

You definitely got me there. :-)

Stan Rosenthal said...

(for those that aren't getting the "mad cashier" references, the picture of me as the "mad cashier" is on the front page of my website @ thesequencers.us (scroll down.) The picture was taken some 35 years ago)

Stan Rosenthal said...

PING Linda: My friend, do you think your blog (comments) are more interesting now that there's again opposition to the (supposed) conventional "wisdom" (LOL!) that was only here before I reappeared?

Linda said...

Stan, yes I do! I like having you here!

I was out today and heard a lady behind me say, "It's beautiful out here! It's like a Spring day!" Um...it was 17 degrees. It's so funny what a little sun in the winter will do.

Linda said...

Ha..I've seen that cashier pic before, but didn't know it was you. There's a story there..you must tell it!

Linda said...

Wow...did anyone happen to watch 20/20 tonight about the John Edwards fiasco? Holy mackeral...it reads like a Lifetime movie. Bizarre.

Stan Rosenthal said...

It's on the front page of my website, I thought folk would assume that it was a picture of me. Oh well, life is unpredictable.

Basically, the story is, I worked for The Old Hickory Inn (a classic East Texas/Louisiana BBQ joint started by Sid Comeaux(sp?), who worked for the classic Cellar Door here before that, as I understand it.) Unfortunately, he died young of a heart attack, and his wife (Irma) took over the business.

I came back to work there again, in her hour of need, and I convinced her to use up some of her Green Stamps, I think the rewards program was, to buy me a Polaroid camera.

One of my co-workers there took that picture of me in my "Mad Cashier" act (I would "climb the wall", maybe I would get a tip of like *50 cents* (I could almost get up to "Tasty Salad"!!!!) and "machine gun" (or "windmill") in the style of Peter Townsend, the cash register as I rang up orders.)

That picture landed in the hands of my dad, who knew some @ KTRK tv (channel 13, our ABC affiliate here), passed it to one of them, and I got invited to be on their "closer to home" segment on the 6:00 and 10:00 news one night.

That was supposed to be my 15 minutes of fame. :-)

And now you REALLY know, the rest of the story. ;-)

Ok, that one was funny!

"Obama sends his teleprompter to low level meetings and photo ops." Crackin me up!

For the Texans here, a snapshot of a News 8 Austin poll taken after the debate:

After two intense gubernatorial debates, who do you think is the strongest Republican candidate for Texas governor?

Gov. Rick Perry
1 (2%)
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison
3 (6%)
Debra Medina
42 (88%)
Other--share your thoughts
2 (4%)
Total Votes: 48

Come on Reck, get on the Medina bandwagon.

BTW, I think the one vote for Rick Perry, was by Rick Perry.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor, I've been enjoying the Republican't primaries for Governor of Texas. Rick and Kay have been destroying each other. :-)

Linda said...

Stan,
That's a great story! As far as not knowing it was you..
a. I NEVER assume my friends have Spider Man like abilities,
b. the pic looks like it could be from the 50's and you're not old enough for that,
c. the website is a bit funky in nature..it wouldn't be unusual to have a pic of some guy at a cash register.

And I think technically you made it to the Tasty Salad, as your foot made it over the line!

Speaking of Pete Townshend...The Who is doing the halftime show at the Superbowl this year! Looking forward to that.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Actually, the picture was taken around mid '70's.

I'm looking forward to half Who at the half time show as well. :-)

Luckily, I got to see Entwhistle a month or two before he died (the Road To Abby Road (or whatever it was called) along with Nancy Wilson, Todd Rundgren, Alan Parsons, and probably a few others, it was amazing!)

> And I think technically you made it to the Tasty Salad, as your foot made it over the line!

I never noticed that before. I was always thinking of trying to get up the the words "Tasty Salad" themselves.

I like your officiating, in this instance. :-) I wish you would've been the official that called the Mike Renfro reception against Pittsburg in Pittsburg. :-)

Stan Rosenthal said...

I'm gonna make this prediction here (but I also hope that this doesn't jinx my Superbowl prediction), that Peter Townshend will sing this line: and 1 AND 1 don't make 2, 1 AND 1 make 1.

Stan Rosenthal said...

This is probably my favorite song about (IMHO) my Mad Cashier picture -

Joydrop: Thick Skin

http://www.thesequencers.us/various/joydrop_thick_skin.mp3

Come to think of it upon listening to it again, the singer on this is who Linda's singing reminds me of ... perhaps you should cover some Joydrop 4 us ('Beautiful' would be a killer song to cover, 4 instance)?

Stan Rosenthal said...

Oops, that address got cut off. It ends -

... /various/joydrop_thick_skin.mp3 .

Put it together and paste it into the address bar of a browser (like Google Chrome will handle this, Internet Explorer won't) and save the file. Then double-click on the filename and it should play.
