"The overture is about to start,
You cross your fingers and hold your heart..
It's curtain time and away we go..
Another op'nin for another show!"
Cole Porter
It's Oscar time folks! Will it be Avatar or The Hurt Locker? Oh my gosh, I just realized that Reck has seen BOTH of those!! Dude...you're in the game!
Wish me luck...only 5 people in the poll this year, which is kind of a bummer, but our picks are very different so it should be fun. I've got my notebook ready and my phone is charging...Oscar munchies planned..kids are already ready for bed..I think I'm set.

Good luck! Make us proud!
How's your Super Bowl going? I just saw a headline that said Sandra Bullock won best actress. She won worst actress and best actress in back to back days. That has to be some kind of record.
I didn't realize that the movie she won for was the story of Michael Oher until about a week ago. I really want to see that one.
Yeah, that's one I'd like to see too. Kinda strange seein non-PC movies up for awards.
And, I'll admit I watched the last hour or so of the Academy Awards. Was glad that The Hurt Locker did so well w/ six, I think, awards includin Best Pic. Cool seein a troop shout-out from that director chic too.I also like the fact that Jeff Bridges didn't go on and on for hours after gettn Best Lead (or watever they now call it) for a movie noone will ever see.
It was really fun. The ballots were all over the place. Final results were...Dave and I TIED for 1st!! Hooray..we'll take the 30 bucks..tho I'm sure he's not pleased with tying with me...I think he wanted to win it all just for the sake of winning it. But...TOO BAD!!! Ha...I snuck up on him, last minute.
Yeah, The Blind Side is good..hard not to like it. A good rental for ya'll.
Good news...the grill is accessible! A lot of the snow is melting, we've been really warm here. I'm wearin one layer, and it ain't fleece! I feel naked.
Cool deal. Watchya gonna grill?
Hmmm..not sure yet.
Terrible dreams last night. Woke up yelling "help me" cuz I couldn't find the top of the ocean water after falling in. Gun wouldn't of helped this one. I'm thinkin this day can only get better.

Linda, you might enjoy this. It is a PJTV look at the Oscars. I particularly like the Obama speech that scrolls by incredibly fast.

Just to note, I'm not interested in the current topic of this blog, and that's Y I haven't commented here recently.
Reck, did Bubba see Alice in Wonderland yet? I wanna know if he hated it so I can go see it.
Ha Nestor...Hollywood's pretty easy to bash, and the Oscars even easier.
He saw it, said it bit.
Linda, Carmen and I liked Alice in Wonderland. It's classic Burton. If you like Tim Burton, you should like "Alice." It could have been better, but all in all it was good. I think it was visually excellent, which made up for a weaker than I'd have liked plot, but it was generally pretty good.
Thanks Nestor! Yeah, I thought the trailer looked pretty cool. To be honest, I don't remember the story very well. I wanna see it!
About to take 4 11 yr. olds and Ben to the arcade for Tony's bday. Wish us luck! (I know..I'll wash my hands a lot.)
There is something that does interest me about this thread though.
Y is it that the "right" side of our little crowd (as opposed to the "left" side of this crowd (me (and maybe a little bit of Linda))) is so enamored by Hollywood?
Who are the real elitist wanabees here anyway?
I've never gotten Tim Burton's movies, they just seem strange to me. Toss in Johnny No-Depp-TH and I doubt I'd ever watch it.
Happy birthday T from the Havics!
Reck,
Too bad you don't like Depp. I think he's one of the better actors in Hollywood, and he's one of the best role models Hollywood has to offer. (I know that's not saying much) I think he is a good actor, and he convinced me with his role in the awful "Once upon a Time in Mexico." He made that movie, which was really bad, watchable.
Stan,
Do you have a bit of Mercury poisoning like the Mad Hatter? Your last comment was entirely non-sensical.
Nestor, do you read what you write? I suggest that you review this thread to see where I came up with my observation.
I'll agree that depp is a decent actor, and was great as the pirate dude.
But, since he says he's so ashamed of the US that he moved to France to raise his kids so they wouldn't be brought up as Americans (his words, not mine),I can thinka better roll models.
I don't think anyone here is "enamoured" of Hollywood. (If it were to be anyone, it would be ME...cuz I like to go there...and I fully admit it.) Why can't we be movie lovers without it having a political spin? I don't go to movies or rent them thinkin ahead of time of their agenda..and thank goodness I don't.
Reck,
I didn't know about the Frenchy French thing. I wish I didn't.
Linda,
I pretty much agree with you. I don't like to know the political leanings of celebrities because if they're too vocal it gets weird. For me, the big one is Matt Damon. He was my favorite actor, but then he had to start saying all sorts of non-sensical stuff about Sarah Palin. I saw through that and just Redbox'd "The Informant" and found it to be entertaining, and his internal dialogue was hilarious. But I think I'm going to have to pass on "Green Zone." A historically inaccurate movie based on something that I put a lot of heart, soul, blood and sweat into? I think I'll have to pass.
Hatter,
Up until you commented, I only made a few movie comments, and primarily because the Oscars are Linda's favorite thing to watch all year, and that's what this thread is about. Generally, I don't get into talking about movies unless there's a really good one, or there is a comment about one.
Linda -
> Why can't we be movie lovers without it having a political spin?
Certainly that's the way it should be, I mean, it's only entertainment.
But the right-wing has been spinning the lie for over 20 years now, so it's embedded in the political winds of a tornado (spin.) :-)
I'm gonna sing now (in my best singing voice), listen up -
Somewhere, Over the rainbow ...
"Hatter"...lol!
Sorry Nest, I prob shoulda kept that to myself. And, i know what you mean, i hate it when I find out stuff about actors/actresses that I like that turns me off. Made the mistake awhile back of listenin to a John Cleese interview and when it ended i felt down right insulted by him and his opinion of average Americans.
Linda,
It's the actors/actresses that interject their political beliefs into the mix. They should keep that to themselves or suffer the consequences.
Hatter,
It's only entertainment if you're entertained by it.
Case in point on stupid actor comments:
From a recent Time Mag interview, onea my fave actors Tom Hanks, speakin on why he believed we fought WW2 and why we're fightn the terrorists today....
"“Back in World War II, we viewed the Japanese as ‘yellow, slant-eyed dogs’ that believed in different gods. They were out to kill us because our way of living was different. We, in turn, wanted to annihilate them because they were different. Does that sound familiar, by any chance, to what’s going on today?”
"annihilate"..really? We expended great resources in rebuilding Japan after WW2. We then allied ourselves w/ them against Communist Russia & China.
Once again a Hollywood leftist blames America first.
cont..
How many lives and how much of our resources have we expended defendin Muslims? Quite a bit actually. From Bosnia to the Gulf to Africa, we've aided numerous Muslim nations w/out so much as a thank you in return.
Yet a Hollyweird dope accuses us of hated and racism and turns a blind eye to the fact that, in both cases (pearl harbor and 9/11), that we were surprise attacked. Then he goes further to equate some type of moral equivalence between us and our enemies.
