Would it be rude of me to take down my neighbor's Christmas lights and lay them on their front porch? Seriously...we've had good weather..I don't know how this can NOT be somewhere on their "to do" list.

"The School House Rock episode of how this bill became a law is going to be very confusing."

Lol! 'I'm just a bill..yes I'm only a bill..and I'm sittin here on Capitol Hill...'

I had never seen all of that. ThanX for posting that, Linda!

You should check out the Liberal Oasis podcast/radio show, as the guy who does it is a Bill and he uses a cover of that tune for his theme music. Let's see if I can find a link -

Regarding the Christmas lights, I have to ask. Are they Mexican? There. I said it.

RecknHavic said...

LOL!

But she does live in MI Nest and she may not get it.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Linda, Mexican Christmas lights are what old New Orleans Saints looked like when they were the Aints.

Bags over there head.

It's a light with a bag covering it. I think here in the states the effect is still used during Christmas quite a lot in New Mexico.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Did I mention that Houston's 2nd. NFL team are Superbowl champions???? I mean, we definitely have more New Orleans Saints fans here than any other NFL franchise fans here other than the Houston Texans.

It's something that Houstonians take great pride in.

Linda said...

Yep..went over my head.

The wind chill is between 10-15 right now. I thought March was supposed to go out like a lamb?

Nestor said...

Linda,

In heavily ethnic Mexican areas in Texas they leave the Christmas lights on year-round. One of my friends lived in a lower middle class neighborhood and his neighbor had Christmas lights up in April, and July, and October in addition to every other month of the year. They also had 3 rusted out '78 Impalas in their yard. They were good, honest, hard-working people...who kept their lights up year-round. This is very common in Mexican neighborhoods. That's why I had to ask. I knew Reck would get it, and I though Stan would too.

Nestor said...

Linda,

I thought it was in like a lamb and out like a lion.

Linda said...

Ok, got it. Figured it was somethin like that!

The saying is 'in like a lion, out like a lamb', tho it usually comes in AND goes out like a lion up here. This is the 3rd warmest March on record I believe, tho.

Last night Tony's snack before bed was a tomato and some orange juice.
I'm like, "enjoy your acid!"

RecknHavic said...

Ya know, those are expensive foods now-a-days. I gotta ckn club sandwich the other day at Wendy's and tomatoes were by request only.

RecknHavic said...

Stan, I havent seen those kinda lites in years tho i do remember when people used to do that.

Nest is rite about the Christmas lite thing.Plus you'll see alot wht lites in backyard trees used as ambiance litin. These lites are devoid of race (tho they do lean Hispanic).

Stan Rosenthal said...

You just gotta love these Republican'ts, just for the humor involved. It's not like they *intend* to create great comedy, it's just that they "R" (pirate speak.) -

Reck -
> ... These lites are devoid of race (tho they do lean Hispanic).

There seems to be a congruity problem with your comment, Reck.

Nestor said...

Leave it to a liberal JIAO (Jew in ancestry only) to be offended by someone mentioning hispanics. As someone with 50% certified latin blood, I'm not offended. In fact if there has been anything said here that is offensive to hispanics, I said it. But the bottom line is this, if it's true it's true. If you live in the part of Houston that you say you do, you know it's true too.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Reck -
> Leave it to a liberal JIAO (Jew in ancestry only) to be offended by someone mentioning hispanics ...

Straw man. Attack the real me, 'cause as per usual, you're missing your target.

Also, how about telling us where you (supposedly) get this idea that I'm offended by anyone mentioning Hispanics?

Stan Rosenthal said...

Oops, sorry Reck. But it is hard to tell yous guys apart sometimes. It's like the old (Texas) Aggie joke - how do you separate the men from the boys @ Texas A & M???? With a crowbar!!!! .

It was actually Nestor that I'm responding to.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor -
> ... If you live in the part of Houston that you say you do, you know it's true too.

Please expand on this, 'cause I have no idea about what you're talking about.

Stan Rosenthal said...

PING Nestor and Reck: Dudes, a little competition between yous two on Texas (Aggie) joke history. The first to answer this correctly will win something, maybe nothing. -

How do you kill a (Texas) Aggie????

Stan, in my limited experience in Houston, I do know that the area not far from UH is a lower middle class neighborhood, (I'm pretty sure that you've said you live close to UH) not necessarily a bad neighborhood, but not super wealthy. That leads me to believe that there are plenty of Mexicans there, and if there are plenty of Mexicans, there would be some of them who leave their Christmas lights up year round.

Stan,

Put a scratch 'n sniff sticker at the bottom of a pool.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Actually, you're wrong about the demographic (even though the physical location is somewhat correct (I am somewhat close to U of H (the Cougars.))) Although in my apartment complex we have a diversity here typical of a Houston community (in that it's diverse), we don't seem to have any latinos here except to work around here.

I only noticed that because of your comment a few comments back, BTW. I think it's because there's very little work available around here (if you don't have personal transportation like a car.)

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor, that's not what I had in mind, but that is (almost as) funny as well!

Let's see if Reck has something to contribute before I give the punch line. :-)

Nestor said...

I wasn't very far from there when I got into my accident. We were there last Memorial Day weekend for a Church Conference and I got into an accident in front of a shopping center where there is an Old Navy, HEB and other stores. It's on a road that runs between 610 and 57(?). Anyhow, that area looked pretty much like the area my friend lived in in SA where his neighbor had the perpetual Christmas lights. Saves time though I guess. Just put 'em up once.

Nestor said...

Nevermind the "57(?)" It was 45. Woodbridge was the street and the girl failed to yield. Wasted most of the morning and the kids didn't get to play in the water at the park by the hotel because of it. Oh well.

Stan Rosenthal said...

I don't recall you mentioning you getting into an accident, but I do recall you mentioning Gulfgate (the shopping center where the big HEB here is where I got the ice after Ike.)

Stan Rosenthal said...

Ok, it looks like Reck isn't gonna contribute to this thread, so here's the real punch line to "How do you kill an Aggie?" -

When he's getting a drink of water, hit him over the head with the toilet seat. :-)

Stan Rosenthal said...

> 57(?)

59. The Southwest and Eastex freeway(s).
