Sure did!

K, question for anyone who knows:

Regarding a "smart phone" (iPhone, Blackberry, etc)..one a those phones you can do everything on...with a data plan. Here's my question, if you'd be so kind, cuz I don't get it. When these phones say that they require a "data plan", is that fee on top of what plan you might already have (texting, 500 phone calls, etc.)? Or is that, say $29.99 just a minimum on the package you have to order to have that phone? Anyone have one that can explain it to me??

A data package is gonna be something like subscribing to an ISP for internet service for your phone.

Agreed, bad deal on the bad call. Maybe something can happen because of it like what happened because of the bad (not that it was bad, but that it was delayed) call on the Mike Renfro (Oilers) reception in the endzone in Pittsburg. The result eventually ended up (after the USFL implimented something like it) being the current instant replay rules in the NFL.

I suggest watching last night's Countdown w/K.O., as he covered this story quite well.

Linda @ June 3, 2010 10:12 PM,
To be more specific, from my understanding is that when you buy a cell phone that can also access the internet with, you probably can buy a voice talk phone service by itself, but if you want to access the internet on your phone, you have to buy a data package in addition to buying your basic phone service.

Linda,

I just got a blackberry and it is basically because you will probably use so much "data" that you have to get unlimited. It is for connecting to the internet, e-mail, etc. Texting, at least with Verizon, is separate but I only pay $5 more for unlimited texts than I did for 500 once I added the blackberry.

Thanks Stan..that's what I was wondering. If it was an *additional* package, or it that price was just a minimum on a package you choose.

Texting would be a third charge, as I understand it. I don't have that smart of a phone (it's a (relatively) old Samsung flip type phone), but it can do all of that stuff. I only subscribe to the phone service to save money. I mean, I don't text, and I have no desire to surf the web on a 1 1/2" by 2" screen. I can wait till I get home (or to a WIFI enabled rest stop if I have my laptop on me when I travel) for the web.

Yeah, same here, tho I do get texting. I don't need to be connected to the internet any more than I am. D's looking into a smartphone for the first time and we were disagreeing on what that "data package" meant exactly.

If you do a lot of texting, you don't necessarily need a "smart"phone. It does help having a phone with a QWERTY keypad though. I like the blackberry because it has actual buttons instead of the iPhone's virtual keypad (I think Droid and the blackberry Storm also have virtual keypads). I can text about 5 times faster now with the blackberry, which I didn't do until recently, but now is pretty important. I also like the google maps feature. You can google a place and then find it on the map, on your phone. Plus we've even done stuff like order food online on our way to a restaurant. I didn't think I'd need all of the functionality but it comes in handy. It is an expense for the data plan, but if D wants one for business, the e-mail capability of blackberry is hard to beat. For those people who like Apple, the iPhone is real good, but you have to have AT&T. For me, the blackberry was the better option as it is better for e-mail, but the iPhone (and probably the Droid Incredible) is better on the internet.

Thanks Nestor! Yeah, we have Verizon, so no iPhone. I'll suggest the crackberry for him. Yep, he needs more access than he's got. Right now if a customer gets him between work and home, he can't do much. GASP! He might have to wait 40 whole minutes!! We've gotten ridiculous with our expectations of immediacy.

So do I, but the only texts I get are spam texts. It happens about once every 3 months. I think my service charges me about 10 cents for every text message received or transmitted (since I don't subscribe to a texting service 4 my phone.)

One thing I'd suggest about the blackberry's is that the trackball gets stuck every so often, and you're hosed until you get it replaced. If he gets one with a trackpad, that won't be an issue.

Jeez Stan, you're like a spam magnet. You get it everywhere!

Thanks, N.

Stan,

Those random spam messages are why we didn't do texting for a long time. I got irritated paying for a spam message when I didn't even send regular text messages.

What I am, is an interference magnet (ie; a 'red-herring' magnet.)

Which is Y I block the spam from interfering with ya'll's (and my) comments on my blog.

Nestor, let me know when Blue Bell comes out with a Blackberry flavor. :-)

BTW, my mind's still blown from watching the latest Star Trek movie, which is Y I haven't read or responded to your comments on my blog. I'll probably get around to it tomorrow night.
