My Environmentalist Friend

This is my environmentalist friend. She loves our planet and I love her. I also love to annoy her. She likes to quote me from 20 years ago when we lived in an apartment. My roommates hassled me when they found a soup can in the garbage can (gasp!). When asked why I wasn't recycling, I simply responded, "I can't be bothered".

I know...but it WAS a bother! You had to store cans and glass in paper bags in the closet, set aside time on the weekend to drive out to some recycling facility, and then you actually had to PAY THEM to recycle your stuff! Yeah, I'm throwin that can out. (These days, I'm happy to recycle as the city gives us a bin to use and they pick it up for me. But I still like to pretend I'm a cranky planet hater.)

So on our trip, every time we were buying something in a store, she'd be before me in line, and tell the clerk she didn't need a bag for her stuff. For giggles, making sure she was in ear shot... I'd ask for TWO bags. :)

My friend, you seem to be attempting to play both sides of the fence. :-)

We recycle.

When I used to take the paper (until I got fed-up w/ the liberal slant)the kids and I would make a bi-monthly trip to the green recyclin dumpsters at one a the schools nearby. Our trash pick-up now is the semi-automated kind. Brown can for trash and blue can for recyclables.

The problem is, environmental care has
become political. If you don't buy into the "human caused GW" crap, then the environmentalist think you're a foul earth hating nazi-like GW denier. It;s a shame really, cause conservatives would be great environmentalists. Our problem is we base our opinions/actions on facts and not feelings.

Liberals dominate the enviro movements. To them, caring about the planet is more important than the effects of what is done (good or bad) when it comes to bein earth friendly.

Not talkin bout your buddy here cause I don't know where she stands politically. I'm just sayn...

I have issues with the environmental movement as well. I don't really recycle unless we're at Whole Foods. The 'blue' bin we have is only for newspaper and plastic. Sorry, we don't use either very much. WF's has the glass and aluminum recycling bins so if I get a beer there or one of their sodas I'll recycle that.

I recycle beer and soda the natural way.

Like they will in the near future on the International Space Station?

Don't we all?
