Howdy Texans! This is where I'll be till Monday if anyone needs me. Except for the day RECK is making me drive 3 hours. (You didn't think I was gonna let that go without a little ribbing, did you?) We're awfully excited to be heading down to the biggest state in the lower 48. I think I'm just realizing how ginormous it really is. Maybe we'll venture away from the pool long enough to find some chicken fried steak or some Tex Mex. I'm a little tickled knowing I'll be in the same state as the rest of you, so I'll check in. Probably just to say "I'm in the same state as the rest of you".

That swim-up bar looks awful inviten. Alittle advice tho, shy away from the beer drinkers, if ya know what I mean.
Texas...it's like a whole 'nother country.
Was just readin through the free stuff at Craig's List again.
My fav: "free cow manure, all you want, I'll supply the wheel barrow, don't think I'll include any pictures at this time".
Very funny.
Oh gee, no pics? Forget it...I like to see my manure before I buy it. Sounds like a scam! ;)
Beer drinkers are people too!
"Beer drinkers are people too!"
They're drinkin beer...in a pool..there's water in the pool...they're in the pool...of water...while drinkin beer....
...I'm just sayn..
Fixin to watch DC..
Oh! I gotcha now. Stay away from the beer drinkers that NEVER GET OUT OF THE POOL.
Hey Linda, have fun in the hot Texas sun. But don't have too much fun, because the sun here is like, REALLY hot. Not as hot as Al Gore likes to say it is, but hot nonetheless. This summer seems hotter than the last few. We haven't gotten as much rain as last year. Anyway have a safe trip. And watch out for the long-haired libs in Houston. ;)
Thanks Nes, looking forward to it! Have a good week...
Yeah, yall have a safe flight. Bring sun block.
Hello fellow central time folks...we made it. 9 1/2 hrs of total travel. A few immediate observations:
1. Nice gas prices! Seeing $3.90's..we're payin $4.20 up north.
2. Black billboards along the highway w/ messages from God. He must be popular down here. ;)
3. Call me a moron, but I didn't expect to see cactus..cacti..cactuses. Whatever. I'm used to seeing them in cute little pots in gift shops.
4. Your traffic lights are sideways.
5. Many Mexican radio stations. Lucky we brought CD's.
6. It's really hot.
So far most of my time has been spent getting hair product out of my packed clothes. Ahh...travel.
We're off to a Mexican place for chow.
Welcome back. And yes, this is God country.
"Sideways lights", that's funny. Important to remember the drivin rules are different here: green means go, yellow means speed up and red means three more cars.
Mexican music stations, that's weird. Try turnin on the tube; there's lots there too.
Was lookin at yalls weather back home and it's sayin low 90's this week; so you picked a good time to come. 'Fraid the lows won't be too low at nite on the coast for ya, but yall should get some decent breezes.
Yep, cheaper gas and cheaper cigs; hey, maybe it is like a third world country down here;)
Hey wow, you're right about the tube. I get the infamous Telemundo!
And what's with the "don't go one mile an hour over the speed limit" thing? We've had more than one person tell us that. Can't speed down here, eh?
Ah, Telemundo es cine gigantia!
Well, there are certain places where speedin is a sure fire ticket; don't know 'bout Padre area tho. Then, in certain places speedin is required.
Workin local today, Austin manana. So we're thinkin meet up for lunch in CC and then the Lexington on sat. Let us know what time yall wanna meet up. I'm fired up about the Lex tour (oh, and meetin yall too, of course).
Hi! Well, I think I'm sold on Texas. Great time so far...we've met some really nice people. Most of em are from the state and are surprised we came so far. And the weather's been great.
Considering parasailing tomorrow..looks like fun. Ya know, playin in the ocean is fun and all, till you remember the stats about sharks attacking most in 3 ft. of water. It's a strange feeling, that 'oooh let's jump the waves' crossed with 'what if I get eaten?'
D's doin his best to leave work behind, but I've caught him emailing and returning customer calls. It was funny last night tryin to convince him it'd be ok to leave his phone in the room when we went out.
R, I'll call you tomorrow. I hesitate cuz I know you're working, but tomorrow is kinda necessary. I really wish you guys coulda come down here, I think you would have really enjoyed it. It's so beautiful and you two deserve a weekend away. Anyhoo, we're in for the night if you're checkin the blog. :)
Parasailin, eh? Sounds really fun.
Wish we coulda done the weekend thing. Maybe we'll come up yalls way one day and then you can back outta the full weekend thing ;)
Please do call manana. S gettin back tomorrow nite (yes, I've been bachin it; actually, I'm quite bored).
People are generally pretty friendly down here, tho I suppose it's that way everywhere.
How was the Tex-Mex?
Sounds like you're having a great time. Did you hit Schlitterbahn? We have one between San Antonio and Austin, but I haven't been. I've seen it though when I've been tubing. About all the Mexican stations, well, this is Texas. Plus, where you're at is barely Texas. I'll bet you can almost throw a rock to Matamoros.
There's one of those (Shlitterbagahoogans) down the beach, but no plans to try it. Yeah, last time we were here, we went to Matamoros, but we're not going this time. People are warning against it, and D says he doesn't need a leather belt that badly. Looks like it's gonna be another beautiful day!
Well, they did it to me again. Only one side of the exterior in Austin was ready. So, partial day there, won't go back till next week. Oh well.
How scary was the parasailin?
Pretty darn scary. When I got down my body was really tired which tells me I probably had every muscle tensed up while I was up there. Heights really aren't my thing. But hey, gotta try it, right?
See any shadows in the water?
Big S and little S are back. Yeah!
We went to Zio's to eat and man, they give ya waaaayy too much food(even by my standards).
When I actually looked down...nope, no sharks.
We just went and saw the new Batman movie. We didn't really like it. We actually laughed in a few spots that didn't deem laughter. I'd be ok not seeing shooting for awhile.
Oh, in the vain of trying new things, I dabbled in the seafood bar at dinner. Had escargot (gross), salmon (yuck), mahi mahi (less disgusting), and cajun catfish (I looked like a 6 mos old trying a lemon for the first time.) It's official...I still don't do seafood.
Finally gotta dig camera and I'll need a few months to figure this thing out.
Yeah, the previews for that Batman looked kinda disturbin.
You're a trooper for tryin the seafood. Salmon, very potent, not for the light hearted. Mahi mahi or the dolphin fish (one a my favs). You should try sea bass, mmmm. Or better yet, orange roughy.
I really don't know how anyone could not like escargot..seriously.
Btw, catfish bout the only fish S will eat, so you're not alone.
You'll like the chicken fried steak.
We're crashin here.
See yall manana.
We went to see Batman too...loved it! I agree that it was distrubing at moments, but that was part of what made it so good. I think it lived up to all of the hype. It was a little long, but it probably needed to be to cover everything. The only thing I really didn't like was the girl who was playing Katie Holmes' character. I'd say 4 1/2 stars (out of 5).
That's funny, Nes. You saw somethin in it we didn't. And it's getting really good reviews, so it must be us!
Hey Havics, just wanted to let you know we made it back. Well, the boat was a bit boring, and the food was so-so, but the company was stellar! I was sad on the way back..I waited a long time for that and it went too fast. We had a lot of fun..hopefully spending the afternoon with 2 burnt yankees was worth the petrol. I know you'll say it was, I but I hope it really was.
We're back too.
Yeah, the SHIP was alittle less than expected (tho after checkin my pockets and findin a info flyer about it, we either never saw where to go or some a the areas were closed). We viewed 2 outta the 5 tour areas, geez!
Don't get me started on the food. Now yall will think CFS sucks (which there's did, tho I didn't consider it anything like CFS).
And yes, the company and convo was best a all! I really like D, good guy. S and I were talkin on the way back and agree, yall are some kind hearted people. Shame we didn't have more time, but there's always a next time.
Enjoy your day manana; you got another 9 1/2 hr travel day loomin.
Really enjoyed meetin you.
Doh! SHIP!
Ya know, I thought it didn't seem like quite enough, but I didn't think to look at the info pamphlet. You mean we coulda climed MORE stairs in the ungodly heat? Dang it! ;)
Hey! I just heard your Planes, Trains, etc. quote...'she's short and skinny, but she's strong...' It's on TBS.
Enjoy your church mornin.
Really liked S, too. I was hoping she wouldn't feel like, 'what am I doing here?'. If she did you couldn't tell..she's really friendly and fun. The snow is calling y'all's name. :) Plus, lil S needs to kick my boys' bums on the Wii we're (maybe) gettin for Christmas!
Off to lunch...I swear if I havta smell seafood again...
I seem to recall SOMEONE eatin clam chowder.
One a my fav quotes. Funny movie too.
Ok, it was on the warm side. Am disappointed we didn't get to see the flick tho. Hey, didn't need spell ck to spell disappointed that time (this whole spell ck thing is learnin me good).
Good luck on the Wii thing; I'd start lookin now..seriously.
Little one loves her rocks. Keeps starin at em.
Church day was great. Joined a Bible study (sunday school class) today; very interestin. Hope yall take a look at that Max Lucado thing; he's pretty funny, tho don't know if his humor translates in the "cliff note" version. Just started that book myself btw.
Well, we're off to Costco.
tell D bummer the Shark folded on the back 9.
Did you notice that "someone" only ate half of the soup? Yeah, it had clam in it.
And by "y'all" reg. Max Lucado, you mean me, right? I'm swimmin up stream, and I'm only trying to learn. Think I know now what it feels like to be a salmon.
Glad S liked her rocks...that Petosky was handpicked by my bro up in Traverse City. And he's an engineer, and had to pick just the right one. I wasn't there, but I can only imagine. ;) Can't wait to see my babes.
Linda, it's only about a 7 1/2 % price difference. You'd think that since Texas is an oil capital, that we'd have better gas prices here (and you'd have better car prices there.)
By "yall" I mean the TWO of yall.
Not much for chowda myself.
Thank your bro for Little S. It is a cool "rock".
Yall have a safe flight back.
Hi, we made it. Read your book on way to planet Houston. I liked it, he's good. Makin tacos...I know.
btw...my resemblance to an Oompa Loompa is uncanny right now. My face is this brownish red color and my hair is all dried out and a funky shade of gold. Thanks Texas sun! Good grief.
Welcome home!
Tacos :)
Yall got out just in time, looks like there's a storm a brewin.
Tryin to create a post about our get-to-gether but unable to download picks. I'll keep tryin.
Started a "diet" today. More small meals to speed up metabolism, no fast food, etc. Did well tell Little S suggested waffle bowls from DQ. Was darn good tho.
This is sorta a cute story...
We spent our last day at the swim up bar. (Actually it's the only time we really used it.) One of the bartenders was this 18 yr. old boy from Russia here on some sort of exchange thing for the summer. We got talkin w/ him, D's ancestry is from Russia, and well, there's hockey. So after awhile D disappears and comes back with a tshirt in a bag. He gives the kid a brand new w/ tags still on, Stanley Cup Champion Red Wing shirt. I thought the kid was gonna cry. He kept putting his hand on his chest and sayin "I always remember". Very sweet. I guess D had bought one before we went down and hadn't worn it yet.
D exchanged phone numbers w/ a Texan who wants to try duck hunting in MI, I chatted up conservative Clay from Austin, met a nice couple from Houston...we had a ball.
Yeah, we noticed that storm on TWC last night. Boy, we timed that perfectly weather wise. Missed the earlier rain, too.
Think I'll join you. I'm as heavy as I've been right now. Too many summer Corona's me thinks. Don't think DQ is recommended in ANY diet plan. ;)
Rocks a big hit here, too. Thank her for the boys...I mean the Texian men. Check it out...
T: "Cool! A Texian rock! Hey Ben! I'm a TEXian man!"
B: "Me too!"
Weird how 2 little yankee boys know how to act like proud Texas men.
As I've always said, smart kids. Texas is, after all, a state of mind.
Glad yall had a good time and got to meet some Texians.
I'm very hungry right now. Wonder if there's alotta calories in a graham cracker. Gonna go see NOW!
Sounds like you had a good time. We haven't been to So. Padre yet...one day. It's good to hear you made it back alright.
Linda, I'm glad you didn't meet Dolly.
