Dollar Drafts and Penny Slots

Thought I'd post some pics of the weekend in Traverse City. T.C. is up north about 4 hours, on Grand Traverse Bay which is on the west side of the mitten, part of Lake Michigan. My sis in law bought a house up there and that's where they plan to retire. The house is great, and it has a killer view of the bay.

We had a great time, mostly doing nothing. (4 ended up
dropping out, so there were 8 of us.) We did go shopping downtown and we hit the casino on Sat. night. I don't much care for casinos as I'm not much into gambling. Too big a gamble for me. :) But my bro wanted me to see the architectural design of the building and everyone else was going, so I went. And lo and behold I discovered a game and I have to admit, I think I had more fun than anyone. One cent slot machines! I had no idea those existed...I thought quarter slots were the cheapest you could get. At one point I was up $6.00! (I cashed out of course.) Yeah, I got laughed at, but I had a good time. So between the dollar drafts and the penny slots, they pretty much had to drag me outta there.

Traverse City, the cherry capital of the world...ok, I wiki'd it.

Beautiful sunset pic.

Penny slots, eh? Way to play outside a the box. Yeah, that's usually why I go to a casino..the architecture..

Sounds like a nice place to retire. Does it snow much there :)

Was 100+ in Austin today (yes, I worked today).

Aw man. Workin on Sunday's no good.

Lotsa cherries. Had some incredible cherry fudge this wkend.

It actually was a really cool building. Everything was asymetrical. Even the light posts leaned.

Much snow.

Chilly here..sweatshirts.

Did you have a good weekend?

A blonde woman was speeding down the road in her little red sports car and was pulled over by a woman police officer who was also a blonde.

The blonde cop asked to see the blonde driver's license. She dug through her purse and was getting progressively more agitated. 'What does it look like?' she finally asked.

The policewoman replied, 'It's square and it has your picture on it.'

The driver finally found a square mirror in her purse, looked at it and handed it to the policewoman. 'Here it is,' she said.

The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying, 'OK, you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop.'

Sweatshirts! Sweatshirts!...We don need no stinkin sweatshirts.

I don't think I've watched this much a the Olympics in a long time. Phelps goin for gold number 2 in about 15 minutes. The gymnastics stuff just makes me bervous. I can actually feel the pressure they're under comin through the screen.
Olympics HD, pretty cool.

Btw, S didn't get the blonde joke ;)

WOW! Just witnessed one a the most excitin Olympic finished of all time.
The French said they came to smash us (the Americans) and in the 400m relay we came back in the last few meters to win.

Awesome!

RecknHavic said...

Mornin.

Gonna be a hot one today they say. Hopin we start feelin some a the effects from this (supposed) La Nina soon.

Linda said...

I keep forgetting the Olympics are on. We watched the opening cermonies, tho. Did you see the guy hoisted up in the air and "running" the perimeter of the stadium before he lit the torch? Very cool. I just caught the end of Japan women doing the vault. Looks like they changed the shape of the actual vault. Weird. Gymnastics is always good fun to watch, I think. Caught rowing in the bar where we had lunch on Sat. yawn. The key to watching is to make yourself start and then the commentaters get you interested in the personal stories of the athletes and it makes it more interesting.

I think we're topping out at 80 today.

RecknHavic said...

A pleasant 91 here right now. Hey, we'll take it.

Finished up in Austin, yeah!

Found gas today in New Braunfels for $3.48, no that's not a misprint.

Fortunately I missed alotta the OC, it is taped; I'll prob watch some a it today.

Linda said...

A pleasant 76.1 here now.
Wow, that is a good price. We were paying around $3.80 this weekend.

OC?

RecknHavic said...

Sorry.

Opening Ceremonies.

Linda said...

Ohhhh! Right!! See, I was picturing you taping "The O.C." on the Soapnet channel and bopping back and forth to the theme song huddled around your popcorn. Yeah. Didn't look right even in my head.

Linda said...

Here's a reason for you to be able to recieve text messages...

Linda said...

Oh forget it. I give up tryin to post a link. Just go to TH, it's on the front page of the site.

Just tried Orville R.'s Movie Theatre Butter. Very comparable to Pop Secret's, a little different flavor. I asked the boys to compare it to what we usually get and I think I heard (with their mouths full), "mmm hmmm! Keep buyin it!"

RecknHavic said...

There's a Soapnet channel?

Ok, must now have popcorn.

This dog walkin every nite is wearin me flat out. Enjoyn it tho.

Glued to the Olympics here still. Phelps won his third gold (this O) gives him (countin last yr) 9 golds and 2 silvers. He's now won more ttl medals than anyone in the history of the O.

RecknHavic said...

I heard McCain was gonna go the text message route as well, but couldn't figure it out.

Linda said...

We're watchin it, too. Bummed we missed out on the drama last night, though.

There's a possibility you don't get text service. Like I said, I tried it, and it wouldn't go through, so I'm thinking you don't.
C'mon...enter the 21st century for cryin out loud. ;)

Linda said...

Ha! Welcome to the 21st century! Wonder why that didn't work in TX...

Linda said...

Wow, men's gymnasts just kicked butt and took names. Too bad that wasn't for medals.

RecknHavic said...

If they (US gyms) medal, that would be pretty good; silver, even a greater feat.
Nobody's gonna beat the Chinese tho.

The race (swimmin) last nite was very awesome.

Not sure about text in Tex.
Could be that whole "it's like a third world country" thing.

Linda said...

Didja notice that Phelps is a U of Michigan kid? Go Blue! (I think I remember that from 4 yrs. ago, but I forgot till I saw the feature on him tnite.)

Yeah, spoke too soon on the gymnast thing, but boy were they great on the high bar!

Linda said...

Alright Olympic guru...

I plead ignorance... didn't know the men's gym. was for medals, thought they were still in the prelimany rounds! Still cool they took bronze, they were happy.

This is kinda stressful! That last U.S. dude's pommel horse excersize was awesome.

RecknHavic said...

Go U a M!

Excitin gym stuff. We'll take the bronze.

I'm listening to Stan's fav. Queen song on the ipod. Wonder where he went on vacation. I only jam out when everyone's in bed.

Are you guys watchin this every night? Too bad I think of a way to put a psuedo bet on it. Oh, I would if I could. I'm patiently waiting for Fall's Survivor.

Linda said...

I "can't" think of a way...

Stan Rosenthal said...

You're listening to Somebody To Love on your ipod? Cool.

BTW: between Houston and D/FW is probably about 3.58 a gallon at this point. I think to the East of Houston, there's some in the lower 3.50's. It's still 2 dollars overprices (like as compared to when Bush took office.)

> The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying, 'OK, you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop.'

ROFLMAO!!!!

Stan Rosenthal said...

(StanNote: I'm talking about cheapest prices. There are definitely prices higher in the range of places I'm describing.)

Confession:

An elderly man walks into a confessional. The following conversation
ensues:
Man: 'I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, children,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Yesterday, I picked up two
college girls, hitchhiking. We went to a motel, where I had sex with each
of them three times.'
Priest: 'Are you sorry for your sins?'
Man: 'What sins?'
Priest: 'What kind of a Catholic are you?'
Man: 'I'm Jewish'.
Priest: 'Why are you telling me all this then?'

Man: 'I'm 92 years old . I'm telling everybody!'

This is one of the 5 dirty Catholic jokes my 91 year old grandma just emailed me. I'll spare you the rest. :)

Linda said...

R,
Was re-reading...

"I heard McCain was gonna go the text message route as well, but couldn't figure it out."

I thought you meant YOU couldn't figure it out. That's why I sent you the test. Sorry bout that.

RecknHavic said...

I was wonderin about that. I thought it was because a the textless Texas trip stuff.

Funny joke!

RecknHavic said...

Ha! I just saw the stain commercial.

Linda said...

I got an account at Live Journal to post at kingz place. I'm following you. Actually I felt kinda bad he only had one person posting there, so I joined in.

So I created an account and they promptly told me I had no friends. I didn't think that was very nice. ;)

RecknHavic said...

king will be pleased.

Yeah, I don't have any either.

Startin to really dig this whole dog walkin thing. 30 minutes per dog now. Tried walkin them together the other nite but they're (or me) not ready for that yet.

Linda said...

30 per dog, eh? Don't you have, like, 8 dogs? No wonder you're tired. ;)

Did you see Phelps in the 200 fly? He didn't seem very happy when it was over...I wonder if it was too close for him. Even his coach gave a funny look. Hmmmm....

I don't think the guys beach volleyball team should wear shirts. They're on the "beach", the girls wear bikinis for goodness sake. I'm just sayin...

Linda said...

Ya know, I'm learning a lot about swimming watching these folks. First, I can come up further when I take a breath doing the breaststroke. I practically drag my chin in the water. And doin the free, I'm like a windmill with my arms. They put their arms in sooner and then continue them forward under water before pushing the water back. Interesting.

RecknHavic said...

S and oldest feel the same way bout the swimmers. I swear, yall only have one thing on your minds ;)

Linda said...

I'm thinkin you meant volleyball. ?

Funny, Yahoo News on line actually had a bit about it too...why the girls and guys dress differently. Had to laugh. At least we're not the only ones!

Linda said...

And I forgot to mention...great minds think alike!

RecknHavic said...

Yes v-ball.

Speakin a sports, s-ball tourney starts manana nite. Yes, we qualified. Finish up sat.

Linda said...

Hey wow...qualified! Good luck w/ that! Let us know how it went tomorrow night.

I'm leavin for the deep south on Friday afternoon. (Or what was the deep south to me, before I met you freaks.) Just south of Indianapolis...about a 5 1/2 hour drive.

My brother and I roadtrip every summer to visit a guy he graduated high school with. I've known him forever, too, obviously. It's debauchery at it's finest, and always a good time. Don't worry, I won't post about it! ;)

Linda said...

Ok, I just looked up debauchery in the online dictionary and didn't like what I saw. I've been using that term a bit loosely it seems!
Scratch that, for the record.

RecknHavic said...

Well, if playin the penny slots is debauchery; you the debaucher.

Have fun.
