It was shot in Ireland and the scenery really was beautiful. I've not been there, but I dug up some pictures that reminded me of the movie....pubs and countryside.
While it did make me want a Woodchuck and a smoke (yes, even at noon), I did enjoy it. It's funny, those old movies..for some reason I'm always surprised at the length. With a running time of 129 minutes, and lack of "action" like we're used to now, it can be challenging. For me, a little more could have ended up on the cutting room floor, but really I don't know what scenes I would do without. It's only because, as general rule, our attention spans are those of a gnat's, so we're not used to sitting through a long story without sometimes losing patience.
They just told stories differently.
It had some really good lines, I laughed quite a few times and the supporting characters were really great. Maureen O'Hara's character, Mary Kate was a trip. I'll tell ya, if a guy ever dragged me across the grass by the back of my jacket, he'd get more than one swing from me when I regained my footing! Fine, I'll let that go. All in all, I thought it was a good flick and I'm glad I saw it. Thanks, Havic!

I'm fadin early. Hopefully the Brendan/Taj & their accomplices alliance will pull me outta the cellar late in the gm.
Ok, on to the Quite Man.
That you did an entire thread on it is really, really nice. Seriously, I absolutely am touched. And to think I sat on The Whale Rider for a couple a weeks. I'm a cad!
What I liked so much about it is the innocence of it all. That and the old fashioned, honor bound stuff. Ohhh.. to live in those days. And yes, the scenery is awesome. I like the pics you put on the thread. I'm glad you liked it!
One day I'm gonna visit that neck a the woods.
Thanks Lin!!
Btw, the reason I couldn't get back on-line is that you need to hit reset on the modem when switchn from the PS3 to the net...that and I'm a bonehead.
That really seems like a good movie. It was one of the favorite movies of my roommate in Germany. I watched some of it, but never actually watched the whole thing.
I finally watched Expelled. Great movie. That's my recommendation for you Linda, if you haven't seen it yet.
Sorry,
It was me, not Carmen on the last post. I really need to check to see who's set up to comment.
I'm not looking that good either. I have "Coach" and Erinn who don't care for each other, so one will go soon if they keep losing. Coach is startin to annoy me..I was hoping he'd be more pleasant. I like that Branden/Taj plan..I'm hoping that works just for entertainment value. We need Timbira to win some immunities so the odds of D and S losing someone increase. Tyson made me laugh w/ his "assistant coach" schpiel. funny.
"Cad"...ha! No worries. I have more time and frankly I probably care more.
N,
Awww maaan. You had to throw Expelled at me.
I'm sure you were sweatn it out when it was Sarg & Erin (both yours) bein talked about. Coach is a strange character. I like the way it burned him up when the tribe talked about Brendan bein a possible leader. What an ego! Yes, the schpiel was funny.
Expelled was a good movie. Definitely worth renting, if for no other reason, than seein Ben Stein's cool back scratcher.
Ok, that was me.
Geez you guys...get your act together!
Yes, I was sweatin. Sorry to see Jerry go, but he was hurtin.
I may rent it when I'm REALLY bored. :)
Whoa. It's hot there.
Reck,
"Ok, that was me."
Here was the giveaway, "than seein"
Dang "g"s get me every time.
It gotta alittle warm here today as well.

It was a really cool back scratcher though.
Yep, gonna do an E-bay hunt for one a those. The wooden ones are good, but not very practical for travel.
We're headn to the Home & Garden Show at the Alamo Dome.
Yep, we're redefinin cool.

Home and Garden Show, check YOU out! I've heard they put in a full-size home in there, but I'm not sure if it's true.
How was the dog and pony show?
3rd consecutive Sat. night out. Crazy lately. Had two 40th bday parties to go to tnite, but I was able to weasel out of one. Another night sittin in a smokey bar. BUT, I was a good girl this time. :) It's gonna be some year w/ D and all his friends turning 40 this year.
I'm watching Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Figured it was high time I see it. It's been out 70 years after all!
I think men ought to go back to wearing hats. I like that.
No huse, but alotta cool stuff. we bought sugar roasted almonds. Mmmm...sugar roasted almonds. Oh, and this rubber tipped broom thig-a-magiger. We now hav a dog hair free couch.
Then we went to the worlds crappiest flee market on Eisenhower Rd. Nuf said.

Hmm..haven't dbl posted in awhile; guess I was due.
You & your smoke filled bars.
Actually, S & I went out tonite & ate at Crabby Jacks, which was as close to a smoke filled bar as we've been in awhile. There was an actual smokin area. Apparently CJ's is the seafood equivalent of Hooters, cause all the waitresses wear REALLY short shorts.
...I hardly noticed..uh...S pointed it out.
Well, it was a long day, that's for sure. Been doin my homework for the last hour or so. Gonna do Kidz Church manana on my own. The story of Jesus & Zacchaeus. It's a pretty short one (Luke 19:1-9).
It's a pretty short one...HA!!!
I never went to Crabby Jacks, I assumed it was a cheap knockoff of Joe's Crab Shack. Then, there was some sort of scandal there. I don't remember what it was, but I remember outrage of some sort.
I think Austin has more of the Hooters knockoffs though, I had one of our pharmacists who moved here from Philly (she's moving back pretty soon) ask me if it was a Texas thing to have so many Hooter-like places. (I think Austin has at least five, I've never actually been to any though) I told her that I think it's an Austin thing. (keepin' it weird) That's what happens when you have about 30,000 young female college students in one town, you get theme restaurants that include either short shorts (or skirts) or cleavage revealing shirts.
Never been real impressed w/ Joe's. The food was actually darn good at GJ's; but the "attire" issue would keep me from goin back. Plus, Red Lobster is cheaper & the fact is that there's just not many great sea food places here (as opposed to Houston/Bay area).
D recently swore off Hooters...said the wings just aren't was they used to be. I never thought they were that great anyway.
Good luck teaching the kiddos!
Reck, I think you'da made a good Hobbit. You'd have your innocence and your shire, both.
(LOTR is on.)
Somethings amiss. Every other time I try to post it says duplication error & nothin shows up.
Anyhow, it went well. That is until I brought out the glue. we were makin pocket hearts (pouches to put prayers in) & the gluein kinda got outta control. then one a the littler ones got alittle teary wantn his mom. Hard to conjole AND teach AND maintain order. Soph and a couple a the older kids jumped in & helped and all went well tho.
Yes, Hooters wings are over rated.
Btw, i'd live there in a second.
I get the duplication thing occasionally, too.
Glue fiasco, eh? Got a little sense of teacherhood I see.
I wanna pocket heart.
It's easy. Fold a piece a paper (length-wise). Place your left hand along the crease (so that hand is on top of paper) and trace hand. Cit along trace line, unfold and walla...heart. Btw, I realize you already know this, I just feel like typin.
Next decorate the outside side of heart. Then fols and glue lower edge and viola...pocket heart.
prayers are optional :)
Don't think I'd make a good teacher..unless they allow smoke breaks.
yes, still smokin, BUT, outside only and really only a half pack a day. Actually enjoyn each smoke alot more.
Hey, it's somethin!
You're not supposed to enjoy them MORE! It's backfiring! Aw heck, you're right...it's something. Plus then when you do give em up, you'll only be giving up 10 a day. The outside thing is good. With weather like yours you have no excuse! Nice 10 day forcast, btw. Freakin freezing here today.
Why am I still up? More importantly, why am I still up watching Kendra move out of the Playboy mansion? I'd better try and sleep.
Aww...did Hef dump her for some twins?
Yes, sleep, headin there NOW!
gn
Nooo...she left Heff for a football player and he hired twins to make it look like he could still get it- never mind. Weird last episode, tho.
It's 4. Degrees.
Reck, can you click on the astronomy pic of the day and get the info? I can't..and the title is 'the great daylight fireball of 1972' and I'm wondering what that is. Just wondered if you can get it. Maybe I'll google it.
Never mind. It was a meteorite that came into the atmosphere, didn't break up, and went back out to space. Estimated at 150 feet long, woulda packed a punch had it hit the Earth. There's youtube clips of it.
I don't know if I've mentioned this or not, but when I was a kid, we went out west and stopped at the meteor crater about 30 miles east of Flagstaff, AZ. Really cool.
We had a 'coldfront' this weekend. It honestly was cold in comparison to friday though. We were out working on expanding our garden this weekend so honestly it was good that it was 'cool'. It's been chilly at night and in the morning. I think it got up into the 60's during the day, but with strong winds.
I'm sorry it's so cold there though. Again thanks for continually reminding me to stay in Texas. I'm sure I might change my mind say around July, August, but for now I'm feeling pretty good about Texas.
Yeah, the thing is tho, you might get wimpy if you stay down there. This weather builds character! ;)
What are you growing this summer? We were thinking about growing more, too. We did peppers, but I like growing zucchini and toms. Thinkin about some pots, too. I'll take ideas!
Yall are inspirin us to consider a garden as well. tho, tomatoes is prob all I'd attempt.
So Nest, any chickens yet?
Acyually, a garden is a good idea, concerned about the waterin restrictions that are comin soon tho.
Zucchinis are really easy to grow. I'll have to research how to grow certain things. We don't have a big spot that gets a lot of sun, either. You guys probably do well with fruit trees. That would be cool...but they're messy as heck.
A better quesion might be what we're not growing. We have about 30 different things that we'll be growing, not counting our blueberry, strawberry, blackberry bushes that we will be planting, plus grapevines. We planted a fig tree last year, as well as a pomegranate tree/bush. (I don't know which it really is) We will probably plant a few more fruit trees pretty soon as well. Our goal is to grow enough food to massively off-set the spending in our food budget. I think if God really blesses it, we will be able to take care of a significant portion of our food budget, plus have extras to sell.
We don't have any chickens yet, but we'll probably look into that (and rabbits) in the next few weeks.
Sounds great. I don't have a place to do that. Tall trees=shade. Gonna try some pots, and I have a little room round the side of the house.
Be careful with rabbits. I heard they like vegetable gardens.
Remember Peter? I may have to call you Mr. McGregor.
Well the goal of the rabbits (and chickens) is to essentially compost and fertilize the boxes we are not using. So the eat the stuff that pops up, they poop and provide fertilizer for the box. They would definitely need to be kept separate from the things we are growing.
Well come summer time, I reallllly wish we had more shade. Plus since most of the surrounding land around us is farmland, we are really exposed to the wind. But we have a real long growing season due to the weather. We'll see how that goes.
It sounds ambitious nest. You should consider some different stages a growth posts; i think that'd be cool.
That's a great idea, J. Nes, that would be awesome if you find the time.
