It's very unsettling when 33.3% of the readers of this blog don't understand the post. Therefore, I'm posting something that that 33.3% is SURE to "get".
Yep, we found a new Mexican joint! La Fuente...which I'm sure in Spanish means "The (something)". Very good...and they have "special Texas fajitas", whatever that means. I'll have to ask next time. Maybe they never get cold.

Fajitas are served with THREE flour tortillas. In Texas, you get a container of 3-4 tortillas per order of fajitas, but they are essentially unlimited. Something tells me at 'The Fountain' you have to pay extra if you want more than three tortillas. But I hope the food was at least good. If you want really good Mexican food, the place to go (outside of Mexico I suppose) is San Antonio. Lots of good Mexican joints in SA.
Mexican in SA:
There's the Big Three, Pico de Gallo, La Margarita and the 24 hr. Mi Tierra. Very good all three. There's Rosario's, good as well. Salsalito, which is the best Mexican food I've ever had where there were significantly more white people than Mexicans eating in the restaurant. Los Barrios; excellent (and probably a higher end and more authentic Mexican as opposed to TexMex) La Fogata, very good. Tomatillo's, Chacho's, and Pappasito's are also very good. Can you tell, I've had a little bit of Mexican food in the 3 years I lived in SA?
But hey, if you want to stay in Michigan and shovel (OK I guess you guys don't actually shovel) snow for the rest of your life, who are we to stop you.
Guess I know what we're havin for lunch now.
I'd probably go for a standard, #1 off the combo menu. You can usually judge a Tex-Mex place by it's enchiladas.
"Dips"...how quaint.
I HOPE it was good, cause those prices, yikes!
Anyhow, glad it was good.
N listed some good places, least the ones I've been to.
Golly, that's quite a lotta mexican joints! We went to one in Padre that was yummy. I have a feeling they're very different down there as compared to the rest of the country.
No, we actually shovel. At least I do.
We didn't think the prices were bad, but you have to remember the cost of living is about 15% cheaper down there. Plus, we split the fajitas, so the bill total was $20.
I watched West Side Story last night and now I'll be singin those tunes for a week.
After giving it a second look, it is pretty pricey. I didn't really look closely, cuz I only order fajitas. I do think the Mexican restaurants are different up here, too. I've re-named the place where they make the guac at your table, "Mexihana's".
"Mexihana's"...very catchy name.
We ate at Jim's after church; consistant grub as usual. Best part tho is they have GREAT waitresses. There'r probably more expensive Tex-Mex places down here, I know El Chaparral is alittle pricey, but worth it.
Ok, so last week Soph & I raked leaves in the front..NINE lrg bags. It now appears there are more leaves than when we started. Yes, we hafta do more rakin in the spring than in the fall here. worst part is I want to paint the yard and hafta wait.
"Paint the yard"..that's sounds funny.
We were just drivin by the lake and there were some people getting rescued out there. Guess ice fishing's over in SE Mich. We pulled over like good gawkers. The cops had a rope going out there and what looked like an inflatable to pull em back on. Scary stuff. And ironically, I had a dream last night that a bunch of us fell through, and had to grab onto a chunk of ice while we got pulled to shore. Weird coincidence that.
More thunder. We're just saturated here. No telling how many inches of snow it would have been if it had been cold. whew! Lotsa flooding in the streets.
Ya know, as much as I complain about the cold, I really do like it up here. I've grown accustomed to the changes and I'd miss them. The ducks and geese are out in full force, soon the buds'll pop out, and the robins will show up. The re-birth in Spring really is somethin. Of course I wouldn't begrudge a place in TX for during the heart of winter! :)
It does actually sound pretty nice...the change a seasons.
Was mid 80s here today..no rain.
Off to fix my mothers garage door.
Oh, we did shrimp on the barbi tonite...mmm, mmm good.
Shrimp on the barbi...so down under of you! Of course you're already down under for all practical purposes.
Aw, mom's lucky she's got you around for stuff like that. See? You can't move further away..who'd fix her garage door?
Easy fix, the lead came off the chain.
Actually it does get hotter there.
Just heard on the weather that we may get some sleet this weekend...crazy.
What's crazy is the range of temp you have in the same season. Or week, for that matter. I think I saw a high in the 50s 3 days after a high in the 80s predicted later this week. Tho I have to say we had 65 a couple days ago (you shoulda seen the folks on facebook!)..it's really rare.
You guys do a good job of makin me wish I was there, tho. There's always a 'grass is always greener' thing. If there weren't, who would I complain to? Makes me wonder if there's not a 'pray for precip' prayer group.
Btw..Bill Maher just made a GM joke and D called him a f*cker. ha!
Since this post is about food, I'd like to make a recommendation to Reck about a Puerto Rican restaurant in SA. La Marginal. It's on Naco, just outside 410. There's a tiny shopping center about a 1/4 mile outside the loop and I think there's a subway and Jack in the Box there as well. Good food, Boricua style! If you've never had Puerto Rican food before (or Dominican or Cuban) I'd try to catch their buffet. The buffet is a pretty good deal. They raised their menu prices the last time I was there, so the buffet turned out to be a better deal, plus you get to eat right away instead of waiting 20-30 minutes.
Speakin a facebook, when's Reck gonna git on thar.
I think he may know it's just one other way for me to bug him. Don't hold your breath. ;)
I'll try it!
The restaurant that is. S is on facebook btw.
The grass is always greener...hmmm...I'm thinkin possible company name. B
...at The Grass Is Always Greener, we'll give you a lawn to dye for...
yuk yuk
How'd the rescue go btw?
From what we could tell, the water should have been shallow enough so that it wasn't life threatening. We didn't stick around, tho. It looked like it was taking awhile.
I heard that if our rain was snow this weekend, we wouldv'e gotten 1-2 ft. Wow, did we dodge that bullet!
Glad to hear it. Do me a favor tho, send some a that rain this way.
Sure! How's the end of the week sound? I'll even cool it off a little for ya!
Cool deal.
We should get our last cold (cool) front here enda this week. It'll be nice cause it's been alittle warm lately.
I know yall are lookin forward to warmin up. Don't know how you take that much cold for that long.
Eskimos!
I know. I like bundlin up, tho.
Just found this cool website. You can type in your birthday and find what the number one song was on the day you were born. Mine was "Groovin"..by the Young Rascals. You've got a good one. D's is "Sugar Sugar".
http://www.joshhosler.biz/NumberOneInHistory/SelectMonth.htm
Ha..the number one song on my wedding day was "I'll Make Love to You" by Boyz 2 Men. That's oddly...well we'll just call it interesting.
Alright, T's askin for Sims City Creator for the Wii for his bday. I'm guessing there's nothing wrong with it cuz it's rated E. Know anything about it?
There are so many different versions of Sim City. If it's similar to regular Sim City, it's about building a city with the proper taxes, infrastructure etc. to attract 'people' to move to your city.
Yeah, that's pretty much what it sounds like. I don't get it...sounds boring.
I don't know, I enjoyed the sim city games. I like strategy and role-playing games though.
I found a used copy of the game today so I picked it up. He's played it at a friend's and likes it. I didn't mean to imply it IS boring...just that I don't really get it. I'll see when we play!
This was sorta interesting.
Today, I took Benny to the book fair at school and he had a book in mind that he wanted. It was "Diary of a Wimpy Kid", and I knew it was a savvy kinda book, but I thought it was a 4th grade kinda savvy. So anyway, I was there and saw my neighbor girlfriend, who I really like, and whose girls I really like, etc...and I asked her what she thought. She said her 2nd grader really liked it, and that Ben would probably be fine as he has an older brother and has heard most of it already. (Clearly she doesn't know Tony that well.)
So we kinda flipped thru it..and while some of it I didn't love, I figured what she said was probably right.
Got it home..looked thru it further and...no. Geez, I feel like I'm Bill O'Reilly. Had to sit him down and explain that I made a mistake, and while I'll save it for him, I just don't think it's appropriate, and he can pick another tomorrow. Ugh.
(The funny thing about this whole thing is that Tony told me he didn't think it was "appropriate for Ben". But he's pretty tough with stuff like that, so I didn't really buy it. Note to self...listen to T.)
Look at you, the censorship lady. Book barbecue at Linda's house! Let's throw another book on the barby! Seriously though, what was in it that was so offensive?
It's called doin your job as a parent. So, well done.
Like Nest, I'm curious as to what's in it you didn't think was age appropriate.
So this is weird; our predicted temps next 3 or 4 days (highs upper 40s, lows lower 40s) is like our winter shoulda been (at times).
Texas...
Mostly just the general tone of the book. The "diary" is written by a middle schooler so while it's actually pretty clever, it's lacking the innocence I'd like them to keep for as long as possible.
Like one story he's tellin about how his little brother found his older brother's heavy metal magazine with a picture of a girl in a bikini laying on the hood of a car and he took it to show and tell, and how the older brother got in trouble. Some talk about being popular, bullyish behavior, etc. It's not BAD, it's just too savvy for my tastes. My kids are still sweet, not savvy.
It's how I keep warm up here...burning books.
Got a fire goin, brought home some Tex-Mex, and it (was) drizzlin earlier. ahhh...life is good!
Looks chilly there for awhile. I'm sure it feels good. We were super windy today, but we could see the sky, which was really nice. Sun's getting noticably higher...ahhh..life is good!
Why is Lost a rerun tonight?
B went back to the book fair to get something else today. He came home with a puppy poster...for TONY. Told ya they were sweet. :)
I think it might have been warmer in Michigan than in Central Texas today. Cold, windy and rainy. But hey! We've needed the rain...for about a year and a half.
That was sweet. Nice havin good kiddos, eh.
Was lookin at the radar few mins ago and noticed aliilt snow (briefly) in the hill country n/w a here. Needless to say, none here.
Enjoy your 3 days of cold and rain! We're very cold today, but supposed to get better by the weekend.
I'm going to get fingerprinted today. Hope they don't find out about that felony thing. Ah youth.
The ol background ck, eh? Remember, deny..deny..deny..
gl eh!
Linda, just remember to say: "It depends on what your definition of is, is."
They scan your fingerprints into the computer now! Last time I had it done (don't ask), it was with ink! The lady said I had very distinct lines in my prints. Strangely, I took that as a compliment.

Nice evil laugh!
I decided to give the movie kiosk a try... it's at the grocery store, so I figured I'd better pick up a few things for the week. ("Few things"...riiiight.) So I'm hungry, so I buy more than I should...head over to the kiosk and it's OUT OF ORDER. I'm movieless, but I have lotsa food.
Oh, and when I backed into the drive and popped the back open to get the groceries out, my two neighbor boys came right over and said,"would you like us to help you with the groceries, Mrs. Olsky?" How sweet is that? This subdivision rocks. I love when those Beaver Cleaver moments happen..make me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Oh and I tried a new Chinese food place. Cheap, not bad. Not enough stuff in the Wonton soup. No Gai Kow too, which is insanity. Lady said closest thing was Chicken w/ Vegetables.
Not close.
And I haven't started my second coat, and now I'm full and tired and don't wanna. Ok, fine. I'm going.
So, did ya apply the 2nd coat yet?
Bummer about the kiosk, which is a weird name btw...kiosk. Sounds like a sm Russian machine gun. Watch out! He's got a kiosk!
We hit Redbox and rented WALL-E, yet again. Dev never seen it and the boy's at friends. That, and we picked up a chi za.
Good times...good times...
I hear ya on the wonton soup.. Must have a big noodle and plenty of grn onion. Not sure what gia kow is.
Right now I've got that uncomfortable, shouldn't a had that last piece a pizza feelin.
Iron Chef on the tube itn't helpin either.
Da, my kiosk is vedy dedly. From dis range I'm invincible I think.
Ha! Dorks.
I like mushrooms and pea pods in my soup, too. Gai Kow is basically chicken (not fried), and veggies (broc., shrooms, water chestnuts, pea pods, etc.) in a white sauce.
My fave.
Yes, I did the second coat. Started running out of paint so I ran up to Lowes for more right before close. Unfortunately for me, they only sold it in gallons. Ugh...I was not a happy camper. I considered not painting a second coat where the bed'll block it anyway, but it felt like cheating. And I'd always look at it and know I didn't do it right.
Doing the second coat w/ a paint brush was tough. My arm was about to fall off. The paintbrush felt like it weighed 5 lbs. I dunno if it was cuz I washed it earlier after I cut in and it wasn't quite dry? But it got really heavy..like it was saturated...w/ rocks. One other bit of disappointment. You could buy these little gold sparkles to pour in the paint, and the light's supposed to catch em and they sparkle a bit. I bought em and poured em in, and I can't find any sparkly pieces! Weird. Looks good tho. I'll post some pics later..headin to brunch w/ my folks and bro for my dad's bday.
Oh! B called me last night to tell me they WON the father/son fishing contest! (biggest fish) He said the winning fish was 27", and I said, 'sounds like you caught a Pike with a tip up!' and he freaked out and called me a "wizard", like I'm some sort of freaky psychic for knowing that. HA!
"But it got really heavy..like it was saturated...w/ rocks."
Welcome to the wonderful world of paintin.
Lookin forward to seein the finished product. If it's not to my liken I'm sendin over Nest w/ a fully loaded kiosk.
Congrats to D and the boys! Yeah, those tip up pikes'll winem for ya every time.
Wizard...
I can't use my pointer finger. Well I can use it for it's primary purpose, pointing, but it's swollen and it hurts like I'd imagine arthritis to hurt. I think I must've hurt it painting. I also think that makes me pretty wimpy.
We call it painters finger.
well, we could.
On a liter (?) note, I finally made some decent pancakes for the first time in my life. Wasn't ever cookin em long enough before. I'm easily pleased.
How was church?
No church...brunch. Then clean up. Workin on post..took some pictures. Congrats on the flap jacks.
No church here either..overslept. Our breakfast was brunch as well.
Yes, the hot cakes were good.
I made griddlecakes a few weeks back with blueberries in em. Mmmmm...you should try that.
AHEM...I SAID I'm workin on a post.
;)
