Too bad I couldn't take any pictures in the exhibit we went to, cuz they were more interesting and well known than others throughout the gallery. I don't think Detroit's exactly known for housing great art.
"I really like the way this artist uses space."
"Oh no, Ben. Clearly the art element that stands out in this piece is the line, and how it implies movement."

Ben's quite pensive about this one.

Two questions:
1. Was this some type of punishment for your boys?
2. Did they enjoy goin?
If it's yes to # 1, then I too will institute this (ie. you better clean your room or I WILL take you to the art exhibit).
If it's yes to #2, best gettin em down here to Texas quick like.
Another question, who are all the white guys in that last pic?
Ok..ok...now I'm bein..what was that word...swarmy?
Seriously tho, the one you liked, I'm thinkin that was a canvas that the artist used to clean his brushes on..seriously.
Ok, I'll stop now.
1. No
2. No
They were pretty excited about the place havin a food court, tho! Of course I wouldn't let em eat there cuz I knew it'd be pricey. I made em tell me what pics they liked best and what they think the artist was thinking. Hey, I'm a teacher, what can I do?
Snarky. You're snarky, Havic. So, you didn't like the canvas then? I like stuff like that.
Well, I'm currently taking the ornaments off the tree. :( Later Christmas!
I had to cut my mom off from buying ornaments. We got eleven this year. Eleven. It's outta hand. My ornament Steralite box is bustin. (I think I'll probly break down and give her the go-ahead next November, tho. It makes her happy.)
What's everyone's plans for NYE?
Art and food courts, interestn. Did they raise their hands and say "Yes Mrs Olsky"?
My mom does the same thing. mt prob is whenever someone offers me somethin I can't say no (which explains the non-workin tread meal in the garage; among other things).
We wait till after NYs.
No plans this yr. Yall?
Oh almost forgot, congradulations to your Lions :)
Gee thanks.
We'll be up at the cottage for New Years w/ my brother. We'll flip between Ryan Seacrest and Anderson Cooper/Kathy Griffin. Oh it's crazy. We'll probably don party hats and leis if years past is any indicator. Some possiblity of Hold 'em, tho that's cooled off in the last couple years. Do you at least stay up till midnight, ol man?
I do it now so it's all cleaned up when we get back. I'm leavin the lights on the mantle I think, tho. I like that.
Sounds fun.
Yes, I still do midnite. Might even pour a shot a Jack in my eggnog. Yes, I a wild n crazy kinda guy.
Good Alamo Bowl gm tonite, btw. Mizzou won.
Crashin here..later.
Tree is officially stripped.
gn!
Here's a question mostly for Havic cuz he's got teenagers...
Cell phones. When do you let them have one? And when you do, what kind of contract do they get? Unlimited texting? Only emergency numbers, like home, are programmed in? Do tell.
I ran into a cellphone fiasco at Christmas and it burned me up. My 13 and 11 yr. old nephew and neice got them for Christmas and proceeded to text each other and friends through the entire gift opening. D and I were talking about it on the way home and he was disagreeing with me for the most part on this one. Anyway..I'll wait to see what you think before I get too into it.
Oh, and Big Boy's new slogan is:
"Big Boy. It's a Michigan thing."
Thanks guys..where you were a few months ago when I was askin Texans about you and Elias Brothers?
Lucky Charms added a new marshmallow. The hourglass. Do we really need another one? There's hardly any of the other stuff left. Of course what IS left is whole grain. "Nutrition to help your kids grow up strong!" Really? It was funny, when I told a friend I got the moon and star tat, he said 'whatta ya workin on gettin all the Lucky Charms?' We had a good laugh at that...I'm really glad I didn't go that route, I'd havta get a freakin hourglass now.
That's a good question.
We waited until recently to get em for them.Altho, 16 is probably the right age; for sure they need one if they're drivin. It's ridiculous that grade schoolers have em.
We went w/ Cricket for the big kids, one monthly fee for unlimited minutes and textin. It's a semi-local deal so their range is SA and surroundin areas. Another thing we did was just get them a basic phone (if they wanted to they could get a better phone w/ all the gadgets and we'd pay the cost of a basic one (about 80 bucks)and they'd hafta make up the dif; the girl went basic and the boy went for the works. We do pay the monthly fee but if they want pics, or music and such they hafta pay for it.
My advice then (when you think it's right for them to get one) is to go w/ unlimited mins and text because kids (espclly teens) will go over on any plan you have.
Re: the marshmellow thing...you're bein Jerry Seinfeld again.
I'm just sayn...
I think it's right for them to get one when they're 33. That's about when I got mine. I was thinking high school, which puts em at 15 I guess. I don't like the idea of how much privacy they get texting and phoning, tho. Whatever happened to "I can't talk..my mom's in the room". I want that back. We have no idea who and when these kids are texting and it's too much freedom I say. When they're younger especially I mean.
We're goin up early. Have a good week, fellas...
Yall too! Don't forget the party hats and leas.
Reck beat me to the question about all the white guys. On the painting that you 'just liked', I looks like those paintings that the elephants paint at the Ringling Bros. Circus.
We pull our tree down after New Year's as well. For NYE, I'll see if we can stream the ball drop in NY and probably go to bed around 11:15. That's what we usually do when I'm not working in the evening. I'm not much of a New Year's guy myself. The only 2 NYE's I went out on was 2000, I drove down to Munich and went to a party and a club, and in 2001 I went to Seattle and hung out at the park by the Space Needle.
In 2000, I was trying to get home by 6 AM to catch the ball drop, but there was a lot of ice which slowed me down, and I didn't get home until about 6:15.
Linda,
What happened to WMU? They couldn't beat Rice? That's like losing to Yale or Harvard.
Happy New Years, Linda!
Nestor -
> What happened to WMU?
Isn't that spelled like "WaMu" (Washington Mutual)?
> They couldn't beat Rice?
Dude, Rice is my hood. It's the closest university to me second by TSU and UH (and not by that much of a distance in either case.)
Never be ashamed of being beaten by Rice. We got the best minds in the college business.
Well, the yrs comin to a close and that menas it's time for me to agree w/ Stanley Rosenthal for, I'm guessin, the second or third time in '08. The Rice Owls were no slouch this yr. While their defense, like most C-USA teams, was lackin, they had one potent offense. They gottem a really good QB as well.
I like that painting above the one 4 your readers. Reminds me of the UPO cd cover, and the Moody Blues In Search Of The Lost Chord cover art.
HNY to you as well, Stan. Good to see you around these parts givin the boys a hard time.
