"The Current Conditions in Your Area"

Tonight's one of those nights when if you don't HAVE to go out...it's probably best that you don't. I'm guessing we have 6 inches or so, and the Winter Storm Warning doesn't expire till 10pm. Sooooo...looks like we're skippin that thing they call the "theatre", and will either surf till we're dizzy, or On Demand the new X-Files movie. Wahoo! More chemicals and radiation!
(Oh, do ya think it's time I bring in the patio furniture?
I've been waitin for a cold snap.)

Yall've got a flag; never noticed that before.

D looks like he's thinkin, "Take the freakin picture!" Brave man smilen & all out there. You should really think about givin him a hand.

Re the furniture, "I don't think the heavy stuff gonna start coming down for awhile".
Your movie quote hint: the actor that said this also starred in a movie about the sea. Gopher...uh, I mean go figure.

Linda said...

Leave me alone. I shovel plenty.

Another hint, please.

Linda said...

And if it makes you feel any better, when I stepped out onto the porch, D didn't know I was there and I got nailed with snow from the blower.

RecknHavic said...

That does make me feel better.

Hmmm..ok.
His brother was in the movie that the line came from as well.

Linda said...

I'm so bad at this.

Nestor said...

If you want to avoid the chemicals and radiation, and save a little money, you can buy the bags of popcorn at the grocery store. We get a 2 lb. bag from HEB for $1.32. (or so) That bag makes a good number of batches of popcorn.

Linda said...

Just watched "Gone, Baby Gone" on cable. N, did you mention that once? It seems like you did. It was really good. (Chalk full a bad language, tho for those who care.)

Linda said...

Ohhhhh! Bill Murray in Caddyshack!! How could I have been so slow?? I get it now, his brother, Brian Doyle Murphy and the "sea" movie was "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou"! (I did see that btw.)

Dork. Like I'm supposed to guess THAT.

Nestor said...

Doesn't someone get struck by lightning shortly after that quote? My favorite line from that movie: "...so I got that goin' for me."

RecknHavic said...

"Congratulations..you win a cookie."

Ok, I'll stop. Yes, you're both right.
We watched Eagle Eye, I'll give that one a weak 3. Good special effects but totally predictable.

Hey L, seen many Duke movies?

Stan Rosenthal said...

Cool to cold here in Houston (relative to our normal conditions.)

Nestor said...

Reck, a 3 on what scale? It looked like it had good special effects, but it looked like the plot and acting were horrendous. Maybe it's better than it looked?

Linda said...

I think he means out of 10, N. Never heard of Eagle Eye. I'll have to look that up.

No, I haven't. I've seen Hondo, and we have Big Jake (but I've not seen it.) I've seen parts of that one with he and Kathryn Hepburn, he's older in that.

(If you couldn't tell, I looked that quote up on line.)

Linda said...

Reck, looks like you're not alone in your opinion of that movie. The percentage of positive reviews on the tomatometer was only 27%, at rottentomatoes.com. They hammered it pretty good.

RecknHavic said...

Yes, the ol 1 to 10 scale.

Chilly and breezy here today; don't laugh, it really is..to us.

I will now officially recommend Whale Rider, tho I never woulda thought i would prior to seein it.
Our next rental's gonna be Iron Man.

Linda said...

Chilly and breezy here, too. Otherwise known as January.

D and the boys saw Iron Man. I don't know I woulda let em, but alas..I wasn't there. He thought it was pretty good, tho.

Funny coincidence, when I looked up Eagle Eye? The main girl in that was the main girl in our movie last night, too.

Ooooh! Speakin of movies...Golden Globes tnite! Hooray!

Nestor said...

Iron Man wasn't as bad as I'd have thought. There were a two scenes that I didn't think Ryan shouldn't see. But other than that it was a pretty clean movie. Good story, and it should make for a very good sequel, and potentially the Avengers movie.

Anonymous said...

Geez, I was watching the 'Stay in Bed weekend' on the Lifetime movie channel. I finally had to turn it..I feel like I need a shower. Or a Little House marathon.

RecknHavic said...

Vey nice day here, almost early spring-time like.

Fixin to fire up the ol grill.

Linda said...

Get out the cedar paper!! The Havic's are grillin!!

D went to catch us fish for dinner, so we're having Hamburger Helper. Hey.. it'll be good. I'm usin real hamburger this time.

Linda said...

I'm pleased you feel you could recommend my recommendation. :)

Linda said...

Oh wow. Check out tdays astronomy picture and make sure to read the entire caption. Too cool.

RecknHavic said...

That is impressive.

Anonymous said...

Well the Golden Globes were good.

How'd grillin go?

Linda said...

Speilberg was given the Cecil D. DeMille (sp?) award tnite..a lifetime achievement type thing. They did a montage of his movies before they presented and wow, I didn't realize how much he's really done. Producing included...Columbo, E.R., etc. Not to mention some of my favs..Jaws, Close Encounters, Jurassic Park. I guess I never thought about it that much.

RecknHavic said...

He was onea the best...till the Last IJ movie. Really tho, wanna my fave directors of all time. Glad you enjoyed the GGA; never seen em myself.

Btw, have you seen many Spaghetti Westerns?

Linda said...

You mean those corny, fake background movies on cable? Not from beginning to end. Pick somethin that means something to you. I'll watch anything.

RecknHavic said...

How bout the Sound Of Music ;)

Oh, it'll be somethin contemporary and timely, enchanting and nothin short of astonishin.

One question tho; ever watch movies w/ alotta martial arts in em?

Linda said...

Gawd no.

You're gonna make me, aren't you? That's what this is all about. You're waiting for me to totally balk at something, and then that's what genre you'll choose. I've got your number.

Linda said...

No wait. It's worse. You're pullin a Peter Graves in the cockpit! You don't care what the answer is, you're just havin fun askin the questions! You're messin with me..that's what you're doin! Geez, I'm slow.

RecknHavic said...

Wow, you're freakin psychic. Good call; shoulda sent the text earlier. Durn, I had set that up over a couple a days too.

RecknHavic said...

You had asked about the grillin. Let me just say that I may have outdone myself on the ribs this time; worth fightn over. and portabelo(sp?) mushrooms; when yall finally thaw out you must grill em. They taste like a freakin steak.

Linda said...

That was so funny, I was crackin up. You had me goin good. You must have been laughing at me.

We're huge fans of grilling portabellos. We marinate them in balsemic vinegar and olive oil first. You're right..they're like steak. I do em on the stove top in the winter. Here's something to try if you're interested. You mix cream cheese, and I use goat cheese. It's grated like parmesan, but it's called locatelli. You could try romano or parmesan instead I guess. Anyway, mix em together and then put spread it on a piece of french baguette with a slice of the mushroom. Delish.

RecknHavic said...

I'll definitely try it. Tho, might pass on the goats cheese.

Actually, I WAS havin alittle fun at your expense; but really the questions were to throw you off track. As soon as it gets here I'm sendin it to you.

TOO LATE! I already ordered it :)

Linda said...

Come to think of it, grilling the bread would be really good too. Now you've got me wanting to shovel the snow off the grill. We're gettin hit again tonight, tho. 3-5 overnite I guess.

I would have rented it, but I'm looking forward to it.

Linda said...

I'm starting to annoy my family. I'm on a mission to eat most of the food we have before I go shopping again. The cupboards are gettin bare. I don't like when the pantry's so full you don't know what you've got in the back. So I'm makin em eat it all. Ran out of butter tnite, tho. I may need an emergency 7-11 trip. Fridge is gettin so empty I cleaned it! First thing B did after school was check to see if I went shopping. Nope! :)

Linda said...

Got me curious, so I googled Locatelli. Apparently it's a kind of Romano made from sheep's milk and aged for 2 years, making it sharper and more flavorful.
Described as nutty and salty. It's really good and the only cheese I use on pasta.
More useless tidbits from me.

RecknHavic said...

Gonna try it. I trust your advice on all things Italian.

Off to my nitely p/u.

Linda said...

No kidding! Those darn men drivers!

I broke down and bought food. I was afraid that my kids might start making little protest signs with their washable magic markers.

You guys don't have deposits on your bottles, do you? I returned 140 today. I wish I could just toss em in the recycling bin.

Linda said...

Uhhhhhghhhh. I'm workin on this x-stitch project for my sil. It's huge..it's a pic of two houses side by side. Each house will take 35,150 stitches, so the two together will mean I'll do 70,300 stitches total. Well I'm half done..one house complete, now I'm doin the other..and I'm a stitch off count. One stitch. I could take everything I've done from the second house out, but honestly I don't see how it's gonna add up or work when I connect the first half to the second half if I move everything over one space. I realize you've no idea what I'm talking about.

I shoulda taken up painting.

RecknHavic said...

Food...it's what's for dinner!

Sounds like you need patience for that. If it's anything like your others I'll bet it'll be nice.
And no, I've no idea what your talkin about.

Nestor said...

Reck,

Maybe you could sub Rotel for the goats cheese.

RecknHavic said...

Ok, that made me laugh out loud Nest.

L, ok, I think I'm done w/ the Jack debate at ValiantForTruth.
He's possibly the most intelligent soundin person who makes no point I've ever debated.

Linda said...

Food is what WAS for dinner. Too bad you guys are an hour behind..you could eat dinner sooner.

Aw, don't quit now! You were just gettin goin! Besides, you're the only one with pithy subject titles..or a personality for that matter.

RecknHavic said...

So, I decide to surf the tv for awhile tonite and come across these enlightenin programs.

Six Degrees (narrated by Alec Baldwin) which basically explained that we've reached a tippin point on global warming and (because of CO2) we're all doomed. Next, The History Channel PROVED that life exists on other planets (shoot, they had "scientists" from SETI) and they're may even be machine creatures. And then, Dan Rather interviewn Madeline (Not)Al(that)bright; who explained (from her impeccable 12 days of experience) how she and Bill Clinton ended the Cold War and that Bush is just (like most conservatives) plain dumb.

I feel ill.

Linda said...

Too funny. Tho that History Channel show sounds pretty good. ;) I'm watchin American Idol. I usually wait till the auditions are over, but they're not showing too much of the horrible ones this year, so I'm trying it. I know it's garbage, but it's a singin comp!

RecknHavic said...

S was watchin it. I glanced in durin the bikini girl singer. Ok, I more that glanced.

Linda said...

D's comment after that was,'you women have no idea the power you have over us.' Ha.

Linda said...

Oh goody. CNN's coverage of the inaugeration starts Sat morning and lasts throughout the weekend! Need weekend plans? Look no further.

RecknHavic said...

I'll be sure and DVR it...just in case.

Linda said...

Sad thing is I'll probably watch it. Supposed to be really cold and D's goin up north this weekend.

Goin to bed...it's freezing, btw.

Linda said...

Good Morning warm friends! Oh you may not be warm now...but just wait! I, on the other hand, will not be warming up today. Well I take that back. It's supposed to warm up 3 to 6 more degrees today. That's somethin! Now if you all lived in Minnesota or something, I couldn't complain. But you DON'T! You live on the equator. So I can complain all I want!

I plan on stayin warm in my local multiplex watchin Slumdog Millionaire. I'll buy the popcorn if anyone cares to join me!

RecknHavic said...

Mornin.

It was quite nippy earlier and is still chilly right now. Course, it's not arctic-like, like where you are. Suppose to get in the mid 60's today. You do remember the mid 60s don't you?

Linda said...

I do! Fondly. I actually checked your weather. Coolin down to mid 50's tomorrow. Brrrr..get ready!

RecknHavic said...

Ohh...I'm ready.

Got Jack all worked up :) Called me childish. I love it!

Linda said...

I saw that. Quote miner.

Geez...I'm sittin here, freezing...just thinkin we're probably gettin some cold in through the window or something and I go check the thermostat and it's set at 61! No wonder I'm freezing my butt off! Going to the movie in 15 min, tho, so I'll leave it till I get back.

Linda said...

Ok, that was really close. I was walkin out the door...keys in hand..when I realized the movie's at 12:55, not 11:55. Oh I woulda been so annoyed. Gives me an extra hour to get hungry for popcorn!

Nestor said...

How was the movie? Did it live up to all of the award hype?

Linda said...

Well I'll tell ya. Yes, it was very good, but it was a lot diff. from what I thought it was gonna be. My L.A. friend was talkin it up..callin it a real "feel good" kinda movie. One that maybe I could even take T to. So while I'm talkin to him, I look it up on line and inform him that it's rated R. Talk about de-sensitized.

So I'm still thinking this movie is sorta cheerful. Again...his definition of 'makes you feel good' is a little off from mine. There are some really dark, sad, downright depressing parts. So I'm sorta bummed I went in with those kind of expectations.
I'll go into the plot if you're interested and if you don't think you'll see it. It's a great idea for a movie, (tho it's based on a book).

I thought the directing was awesome...visually very cool. It was noticably different. And while I'm not usually acutely aware of sound editing..I did notice that, too. I'll predict Oscar nods for Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and maybe Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.

Linda said...

"nod" meaning a nomination, not necessarily a win.

RecknHavic said...

It's freakin -6 there. Best crank up the ol heated blanket.

Linda said...

With a wind chill of -18! Brutal. Unfortunately I have to go out a couple times tday. Plus I have to shovel the walk.

Nestor said...

Why don't you put a sign on the sidewalk that says: "Caution, icy sidewalk!"?

Linda said...

Ha...good idea N. I compromised..shoveled the walk, but not the driveway. Man alive..did I mention it's cold. Cripes. I'm finally in for the day (night). One more bad one tomorrow I guess, then it's supposed to improve.

You guys still thinkin Florios? I looked it up on line. Had pics of the place and the actaul pizza, too! Looked good. Don't worry, I won't try to pay this time.

Nestor said...

Thanks for the reminder! We were supposed to head down today, but some stuff came up, but we'll leave tomorrow morning. I'm thinking probably either tomorrow night or Saturday night would be a good day to hit Florio's. I need to talk to Carmen to shore up the details though. Reck, let me know which evening works better for you guys. I didn't know they had a website. I'll check it out.

RecknHavic said...

Sat would be best as I've gotta work late again tonite.
Mmmmm...pizza.

So, what's up w/ this Holiday March? Yall walkin in it?

RecknHavic said...

Just to let you know we are meetn up for dinner manana and we don't expect you to p/u the ck this time.

Ok, maybe the bar tab, but THAT'S it.

Anonymous said...

Order waters and ya got yourself a deal.

Went and saw Hotel for Dogs w/ the kids today. Good family flick. Had lotsa dogs in it. Oops...spoiler alert!

You guys ready for Lost next week?

(Oh..puter's down again, so I may come up black and not underlined occasionally.

RecknHavic said...

Does it count if the water's got scotch in it?

Ok, the boys outta town which means I git the puter all to myself. 1 gm left in my first season. I know you're not interested in this but tough. It's really cool! Started out in HS, recruited by Penn St and midway through my 1st yr I earnrd a startn role as HB. 1 gm to fo in regular season (9-2 so far). One a my loses was to....Mighigan. Durn Mich.

Anyhow, there went 4 hrs tonite. Did take a break & play Disney Scene It; got creamed.

I should sleep, I'm eatn za manana.

gn & gl w/ that pute.

Anonymous said...

Oh come ON. We're warming up to 20 today, but the winds picked up to15-25 mph to make up for it. We're gettin 2-4 inches today and 1-3 tonight. Then it says, "snow this evening will transition to snow showers late." Huh? So basically we're gonna get some snow today, and then later it's changing to snow.

Go Wolverines!
Yes, by all means rest up before you eat pizza. Maybe you should even nap before you have to leave tnite.

Anonymous said...

I'm watching way too many hours of this John Adams miniseries. I think R&N would really like it.

RecknHavic said...

Sounds thrillin. Is it as good as Sho-gun?

Well, we hada good time last nite. The za was better than average and it was nice havin some conversations and hangin out w/out kid distractions.

Anonymous said...

Ha..never saw Shogun, smart alec. I thought you guys were all about the founding fathers. Conservatives like to bring them up a lot. I watched 6 hours yesterday..only 2 hrs. and 20 min to go!

Glad you had fun. So which do you and S like better? Chicago style or NY? I ended up eatin salad instead last night. Maybe tonight.

RecknHavic said...

As of right now I'm gonna hafta say Chigo style. But, ours had so many blk olives that it mighta skewed the results. Next time, no olives. I did learn that you fold the za over after watchin Nest & Carm tho; makes it much easier and less messy to eat.

Yeah, 6 hrs a John Adams...I'm patriotic, but not THAT much. Speakin a movies after we ate we all came back to our house and watched Whale Rider. Then we discussed it's implications on ourselves and all a mankind.

Anonymous said...

Do you have any idea how often I shake my head and mutter 'you're such an a**' under my breath?

I'm not sure I've ever had NY style technically. Heck, I've never had a za I didn't like.

I went out to shovel for a little exercise. Took me a freakin hour and 45 minutes! Next time I move I'm either headin south or I'm lookin for a shorter driveway. I can't feel my thighs. Ha..that reminds me of the worst pick up line I ever heard. Guy in college told me he belonged to the fraternity 'I feela thi' and he proceeded to run his hand up my leg. I know...charming.

Anonymous said...

Btw...those olives come off, ya know. What you do is you use your thumb and pointer finger and you pinch one.. and then pull. That way you don't have to taste so many olives.

RecknHavic said...

Nice.
Did it work?

I didn't think a that till the last piece actually. Where are ya when I need ya?

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah..I was putty in his hands after that. No.

Had a nice steak at Friday's tnite. Mmmmmm. Watchin the football games and some of Obama's inaugeral concert at the Lincoln Memorial. Oh and I finished J.A.! All 8 or so hours of it. I learned a lot.

RecknHavic said...

Steak and football, the perfect day.

You should talk to my grandma, she knows everything John Adams.

Linda said...

Really? Just likes him? Seemed like a decent bloke. You should get the miniseries for her. It really was very good.

It's snowing on my driveway. I may have to hurt someone.

Are you watching any of this inaugeration stuff?

I'm gettin nervous about everyone going back to the island.

RecknHavic said...

Only 3 days, can't wait.

I've watched none of it. I'll look in tues. Fraid manana's full, what, w/ all the Holiday March stuff.

Took lil 1 and a friend a her's to see Hotel For Dogs today, quite the yawner.

I long to shovel snow.

Anonymous said...

I guess I coulda mentioned that, but I thought the yawning was just me. I actually rested my chin in my hand and closed my eyes. My kids really liked it tho.

Are you really doin march stuff? Wasn't detectable on the sarcasm meter.

Coulda used the help today I tell ya. I'm gonna be sore.

I'm torn on watching the news. Part of me figures I should watch, I mean it's gonna be a big part of history, like it or not. And I don't wanna remember that I watched MASH reruns while it all went down. But it's all so..so..oh you know. I watch it in doses. When they start goin over the top, I turn it.

Linda said...

omg..don't EVER buy Golden Oreos. They're impossible to stop eating. You never get sick of em. Ever. And they're awesome dipped. Speakin of cooookieeees...didja order from your favorite Girlscout?

Linda said...

Aw man...just had to flush a fish. Dang.
I'm beat. Sweet dreams!

RecknHavic said...

Actually, I like the fact that there's a MLK Day. But, I don't march cause it's a politicized march dominated by the left. I talk to thye kiddos about it, wwhat King did, etc. That's about it.

You had to mention that there's golden oreos?

Soon as I see a GS cookie stand, I'm buyn!

Linda said...

We get our neighbor GScouts knockin on our door. How are you supposed to say no to their faces? So we bought some. They don't get delivered till Feb some time.

Had a pretty hot dream last night that I was makin out with Probst. I don't have any idea what my subconscience is thinking. (Well, I have a small idea.) I can't remember the last one I mentioned, but I'm pretty sure this is a step up at least.

Frustrated w/ this car deal. I've gotta turn mine in by the 2nd, and I've no idea what I'm doing in place of it. Maybe a rickshaw.

RecknHavic said...

I hear ya. My van died today, got it started and now gonna haveta take it in. S not too thrilled about me workn outta hers for a day or two. That, and found out today that our rents goin up.

What a great day!

Linda said...

Oooh, a double whammy! ouch.

Wow, Ramos and Campean getting released in March. Good for Bush. GB's Fox show just ending. I totally forgot if you can believe it. Bummer...I wanted to see the first show.

RecknHavic said...

Glad to hear that. Did Bush pardon em?

I forgot as well (meant to DVR it)> Gonna try & find it on YouTube or somethin. Must see Palin,,,oh yeah, and GB too.

Anonymous said...

From what I heard, it's not a "pardon", but a shortening of the sentence.

I didn't see it, but I'm guessin hair up and glasses. No, not Glenn.

RecknHavic said...

Good for him; alittle late, but still.

Btw, any more shovln today?

RecknHavic said...

Well, typically I go to youtube to look for somethin and end up wastin a hour lookin at comedy clipps. Watched a bunch a Dennis Miller on O'Reilly, very funny stuff.

Anonymous said...

No! Today was actually pretty nice. Hit around 20 and the sun was shining with little wind. I took my mom and mom in law to lunch for their birthdays and D met us there.

I think it was over Christmas break that they played a whole hour of Miller interviews. I find him funny.

Linda said...

I opened the oven with glasses on the other day and I had a flashback to Padre. Every time I walked outside with sunglasses on, they'd fog up. What's up with that? That's crazy hot and humid. That's not normal. And I have to say..I don't think I've ever been so hot as that afternoon walkin around that boat. That was probably a walk in the park for you people, but holy smokes.
Sure could go for that beach right now, tho.....

RecknHavic said...

It was warm that day, wouldn't call it hot tho.

But, it drops into the 40's here & e1 freaks out. I'm sure when it's 40 yall are baskin.

Linda said...

'wouldn't call it hot'. Freak.
Yes, 40 would feel great right now. It's all relative. Shoot the other day when I shoveled, I had to unzip my coat. When I came in I checked the temp and it was 15 w/ a wind chill of 3.
